Oakes Barn Christmas meal, what a great group of staff, the best

Wishing all my fellow publicans & hospitality hero’s a busy, merry & trouble free Christmas. It feels bleak this year but I hope you find some joy in the faces of your customers & your teams. Thank you to those that have been working so hard for the industry. We fight on in 2026!

@pub_that They seem totally oblivious to what they have done and are still doing, how many more pubs etc will shut before the penny drops

The new look for pubs up and down the country. Will this pub ever open again? Or will it be used for housing? Maybe a vape shop? How many publicans are hanging on for Christmas and will then hand back the keys? Who in their right mind would get in to the lib trade now?

Funny how any complaints you get they always ‘work in hospitality’.

@pub_that Never met you but it is a tough environment out there, not sure when we’ll get help from the government or if we will but we all have to keep on trying

So to see so many genuinely despairing at the current situation, closing businesses, losing their homes & livelihoods or having to slim down the team they care about, is really sad. RR has to have a rethink in the Autumn and REALLY help pubs. No more smoke & mirrors.

I’m lucky to have met so many publicans/ landlords from Up and down the country. They’re all as different as their pubs are, a proper diverse bunch of characters. One thing they all have in common is their resilience and adaptability to everything that’s been thrown their way 1/2

Well we guess we just have to accept we are pretty good at our burgers

It would be more accurate to say that you are forcing businesses to do this & happy for them to have to deal with the consequences whilst at the same time you are further increasing their operating costs by the NIC changes & reducing rate relief for town centre based businesses.
