maybe because a large part of katara’s identity is tying herself to what happened to her MOTHER at the hands of FN politics and so is zuko’s? aang literally doesnt even have a mother, gyatso was the closest thing he had to a parent and that person also operated on a non familial level as his teacher.

The thing is ZKs truly do believe Katara relates more to Zuko, a boy whose arc is seeking approval from his abusive father vs defying the same nation lead by him; than Aang, a boy whose the last of his kind bc of Fire Nation violence & works tirelessly to bring peace to the world

the same exact way katara didn’t want aang to get into the avatar state in season 2 episode 1 because she could see his anger and devastation and she hated seeing him like that, you just don’t understand what it’s like to literally be the last remnants of a culture, none of the gaang understands this

Some people are bringing up how it would’ve been cool if Katara kept her scars because it would made the moment in Ba Sing Se between her and Zuko more powerful, however, even though I do believe they should’ve let her keep her scars for a few more episodes to explore more of her

@lennnyyyg just like how zuko manhandled katara in the comics didn’t apologize and katara and aang had to be the ones to calm themselves down because of his actions. just like how zuko burned down kyoshi island, never apologized or paid for it
