St Peter’s Church, Clippesby, Norfolk. The round tower is Norman, 11th–12th century, typical of East Anglia where flint made square towers difficult. Much of the nave was rebuilt in the 14th century. The village is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086. #Clippesby#aerial#Norfolk
@Timdaw I think what we most enjoyed was walking to the stones and becoming aware of all the surroundings, the barrows, the circus and whatnot. That was cool.
Good morning everyone wishing you a happy day 😀last week’s lovely lunchtime stop in the pretty little village of Milldale beside the ancient stone bridge 💚
Old John Tower, Bradgate Park, Leicestershire. Built in 1784 by Grey, 5th Earl of Stamford, probably as a landscape folly overlooking the estate. Bradgate was once the childhood home of Lady Jane Grey, England’s “Nine Days’ Queen”, who lived here in the 1540s. #BradgatePark#aerial
@Timdaw This morning I was just thinking about the research my brother used to do and started wondering how he extracted cougar DNA from the samples. Thanks!
Twelve years ago my daughter was extracting DNA from Kiwi fruit - the white layer in the test tube is DNA, the all green one is just kiwi fruit, salt and detergent warmed together. Add alcohol and the chemistry happens. She is now in the final year of a Biomedical Science degree.
Downham Market, Norfolk. A market town recorded in the Domesday Book in 1086, its name meaning a settlement on higher ground by the fens. It prospered through agriculture and river trade on the Great Ouse, and later with the arrival of the railway in 1846 linking it to King’s Lynn and Ely. #DownhamMarket#Norfolk#aerial
Making videos like 'we' do Michael. I speak to scores of archaeologists.
I have yet to meet one that thinks they are "close to the full picture". Quite the opposite.
But sure... peddle that line, because it feeds your narrative.
Alexandra Dock, Port of Grimsby, Lincolnshire, opened in 1879 during the great expansion of the town’s fishing industry. Grimsby became the world’s largest fishing port by the early 20th century. Today the docks handle car imports, offshore wind industry support and general cargo on the Humber Estuary. #Grimsby#aerial#GrimsbyDocks
However many times I see this building, I'm staggered that anyone could have thought it was an appropriate idea. It seems to send a massive F*** You, Great Yarmouth' as it turns its back on the town. Hopefully it will be demolished as part of the current development plan and this can become a public quayside area like the waterfront in Ipswich.
Havenbridge House, North Quay, Great Yarmouth, a modern riverside office block completed around 1970 on land long associated with the town’s commercial quays. It later housed HM Revenue and Customs offices and other government departments. The building stands beside the River Yare, where Great Yarmouth’s port handled huge volumes of North Sea herring during the 19th and early 20th centuries. In recent years the block has been refurbished for modern office and telecommunications use, reflecting the town’s shift from fishing and maritime trade to service industries. #GreatYarmouth#aerial
@pete_savin I don't remember seeing the gap between the walls last time I was there. Should have looked around more. Surely if I had a wee drone I would have noticed.
The Anglian tower in #York has proven difficult to date, built into the legionary fortress wall with possible dates from the late 4th Century to the 8th cent. It was later buried by the Danish ramparts preserving it until its 19th cent discovery #Archaeology
