You don’t want to create new states in the South East, but you want to expand the South East into Delta. Interesting logic. The truth is, we Anioma people will not allow ourselves to be divided from our brothers in Delta. There will be no state creation. Delta is fine as it is, and we coexist peacefully with other tribes. No state will be carved out of Delta, talk less of zoning it to the South East.

There is nothing like an official designated “state creation slot” for any geopolitical zone—only ongoing agitation and advocacy. There should be no issue if the proposed Anioma State is created in the South-South, if that is the collective choice of the people.

At least, the talk about Anioma state being created can now die a natural death. The only case for it was that South East has only 5 states, and Anioma state will make it 6 bringing the region's number of states to parity with others, except the North West that has 7. Any new state to be created in the name of the South East will be from the state and part of the South East — any of Orlu, Adada, Anim State will be good.

In Nigeria, the South-South political zone is not coherent. It should be split into Akwa-Cross and Rivers-Bayelsa-Delta. Parts of Delta should join South-East while Edo can stand-alone or join South-West. Most tribes in the zone have nothing to do with each other - no shared culture, language and even geographically, very distant. To go from Calabar to Benin you cross the entire South-East.

During the 2023 election, Okowa suddenly started claiming to be Igbo the usual “Igbo of convenience,” only when it is politically befitting. When people asked me why I refused to support Atiku even with him having an Igbo vice candidate, I said cause there is nothing genuine about Okowa claiming Igbo and today I have been proven right.
