This incessant dragging and shaming because Anioma/Ndokwa folks decline the Igbo label only worsens the relationship that already exists. From celebrities to scholars to everyday people, we've made their choice crystal clear: “We are Ukwuani/Anioma, not Igbo.”
We must learn to respect our choice. Forcing it is like forcing an Indian to call himself Pakistani simply because they share some language family and cultural similarities. Language family ≠ ethnicity. Self-identification is what matters. We have chosen not to be igbos, respect our decision.
