Phil was a great coach but literally every great had a great coach or 2 so that’s irrelevant, you’re bringing up GOOD players but you could do that with any finals bound team. The issue a lot of us have is you guys act like he had a solid team from 05-07 and needed a stacked team when neither are true. His 05-07 teams were awful and his 08-10 teams were very solid but not stacked. Put it like this, the mid 00s Lakers had guys that struggled to get playing time for the 03 Cavs and 08 Heat (very awful teams), the 2010 Lakers had a guy that barely played for the 07 Cavs as a rotation player. No reason to overrate his supporting cast because he proved his detractors wrong in 09/10

I could make a compelling argument that Kobe was never the best player in the league in any season never mind for a decade straight. And nobody at the time thought he was, at least outside LA.

Pau’s Grizzlies were on pace for like 20 wins before he was traded to the Lakers, they fell off hard after losing their glue guy (Battier). The Lakers were on pace for 50+ wins before Pau joined. You guys use that as cope because Kobe proved y’all wrong the moment he had a solid team. The what ifs can be used for so many greats lol it’s just pure cope because he proved his detractors wrong in 08-10, but it’s one of the dumbest talking points because we’re talking about a guy (Pau) who was very rarely seen as a top 20 player before joining Kobe. Just check old forum posts and all-NBA/MVP voting. It was very crowded at forward, sure, but the way some people talk about him you’d think 2020 AD joined the team

So he had a solid team right after 07 and made 3 straight finals in a competitive west. Still fundamentally the same player outside of a revamped post game in 2010 and less athleticism post 08 He didn’t have an argument in 05 when he missed the playoffs, the best player in the world is always capable of at least reaching the postseason regardless of supporting cast, but he had the best argument in 06/07 because of how bad his situation was while still making the playoffs in a strong West. 08-10 reinforced what was obvious before that
