This "savings" is a pathetic joke from a bankrupt regime. Capping ministers' imprest at ₦700k while Nigeria's debt hits ₦110 trillion+ and $11.6bn goes to servicing alone next year? These officials already pocket millions in allowances, estacode, and jets - yet we're applauding pocket change cuts amid crushing inflation and hunger? It's optics before the next wave of hardship or election slush funds. Real fiscal discipline starts with slashing the bloated cabinet, not PR stunts. NBS reports headline inflation still at 15.69% in April 2026, squeezing households dry while elites play pretend - EAA

For those wanting to know what the meaning of imprest is in this context, it is like a fund given to government officials to augment expenses incurred by the officials. It is money given to them for minor, urgent, or recurring official expenses instead of waiting for the usual bureaucratic bottleneck for approval of funds to carry out their duties. Eg, photocopying, buying of coffee etc. Most government officials usually used this to embezzle funds.

A prominent politician and daughter of a former president has dumped the ruling party after enduring persistent disrespect, rejection, and unfair treatment from state leadership. She brought pedigree, loyalty, and experience, yet was rewarded with marginalization and sidelining - classic proof that many party structures reward sycophancy over real merit. This exit isn’t isolated; it exposes deeper cracks where loyalty gets devoured and spat out. Nigerian politics stays vicious - strong figures rarely tolerate such humiliation indefinitely. Expect more heavyweights to peel away as 2027 pressures intensify. The arena remains brutal, exposing how power often trumps fairness and unity.

It's refreshing to see Governor Okpebholo drawing a firm line against kidnappers holding Nigeria hostage, especially with elections looming, but one can't help wondering if sermons and prayer sessions at LoveWorld City will outpace the need for boots on the ground in Edo's troubled corridors. His call to tackle cultism through faith sounds earnest enough after those recent arrests, yet it lands a bit hollow when families are still paying ransoms while awaiting real policy muscle. At the end of the day, blending the SHINE agenda with spiritual warfare might rally the base, but Nigerians are quietly hoping for fewer pulpit moments and more measurable results on security.

#ICYMI: Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has said that no individual or group should hold the country captive for personal or political gain, especially as elections draw closer. According to him, the country does not belong to kidnappers. The governor made the declaration during a visit to LoveWorld City, Christ Embassy, Benin City, the state capital, where he asked the congregation to pray against kidnapping, cultism, and other security threats facing the nation. channelstv.com/2026/06/07/ins…

The Nigerian Air Force deploying an aerial surveillance aircraft for those abducted teachers and pupils in Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele, Oriire LGA, Oyo State, is a desperate band-aid on a gaping national wound. How did bandits operate so freely in a supposed peaceful Southwest? This isn't progress - it's admission of failure after years of porous borders, compromised intelligence, and leaders more obsessed with politics than securing lives. With over 3,000 kidnappings reported nationwide last year alone, it might become more unless we overhaul our security architecture ruthlessly. This shouldn't be reactive theatre; it demands proactive purge of enablers.

@NigeriaStories How on earth is this supposed to make the news or are they indirectly leaking information to the terrorists on their supposed classified actions. This is suppose to be a secret to them until the children and teachers are rescued. Why are they making it open?

It's fascinating how IPOB is now pushing the Court of Appeal to toss out the government's cross-appeal and free Nnamdi Kanu immediately, essentially arguing that the feds already admitted the trial was a jurisdictional mess from the start. After years of back-and-forth drama over Radio Biafra broadcasts turned into a life sentence, one can't help but wonder if this endless legal ping-pong is more about saving face than delivering justice. At this rate, the only winners might be the lawyers billing by the hour while the rest of Nigeria watches another chapter in the never-ending Biafra saga unfold.
