The urban mobility system is highly complex. Luckily, the basic math for throughput is remarkably simple! (Capacity of different modes by @NACTO)

What Michael and his team demonstrate is that placemaking is not cosmetic - it may not be the answer or panacea but it is certainly worth the start. The risks do not disappear, but the environment changes and that matters to people. #MitchellsPlain

What is the power of placemaking in places where the challenges are bigger and the risks higher? Over 8 years, we have spent time in Tafelsig alongside Michael Bell and the PAINT Communities projects, supporting and amplifying as they reclaim public spaces. @mplainonline

Can #placemaking and art make a difference in neighbourhoods impacted by gangs and neglect? Yes(!) says our friend, Michael Bell and the PAINT Communities project in Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain. Since formalising almost 10 years ago, PAINT has completed 17 murals with artists across walls, walkways, homes and bus shelters. None have been vandalised. Some former taggers now paint with the project. In sections along AZ Berman Drive, white backgrounds were used intentionally to help reflect limited street lighting and improve visibility for commuters and schoolchildren. Gang activity and socio-economic pressures remain serious. But over time, Michael believes that reclaiming public spaces, brings hopes, dignity and some fun. If you’d like to support a mural or the initiative, feel free to reach out. Next step would be to reduce the death-trap road safety risk to young people on AZ Berman Drive. @geordinhl @CityofCT @RobQuintas #UrbanMobilityCT

"A surprisingly small drop in cars on the road—just 5-10%—can dramatically ease congestion, and public transit is one of the most effective ways to get that drop." fastcompany.com/91493803/wheth…

@__karjo That means we have a serious development problem if we are not seeing potential growth in other cities and the prospects of them becoming the country’s economic hub.

#MilanoCortina2026 have been unforgettable. Olympic Games infused with a spirit only Italy could deliver. From the glow of the cauldron to the precision of the high-speed trains; from fashion to centuries-old architecture ; from the warmth of volunteers to the simple freedom of walking historic streets — all set within the dramatic amphitheatre of the snow-capped Alps and beneath the Duomo’s watchful spires. Milano, Cortina, Verona (and a stop in Torino) and beyond did more than host. They inspired, and brought the world together as best they could. The most widespread Games, that spread the Games magic far and wide. Grazie @iocmedia @milanocortina26 @ItaliaTeam_it @GiorgiaMeloni

@Mabine_Seabe More roads or lanes would be like loosening ones belt to deal with obesity. Every avenue to make inner city public transport and walking simple, logical and free flowing is the only option for (any) city.

"No major new roads upgrades are expected". In CPT, the only time there isn't traffic, is between 00h00 and 06h00. Aside from road infrastructure taking strain, sewer infrastructure is taking strain. CPT (City Bowl & surrounds) is going to develop itself into a disaster.

My friends in hospitality always say that if you want to see where the hotel industry is heading over the next few years, pay close attention to developments at the V&A Waterfront. And boy oh boy is the V&A Waterfront going large with their newest series of developments. Their R20 billion coastal expansion in Granger Bay, where 3.81 hectares of land will be reclaimed from the sea, is moving along swiftly. Permission has been granted by the local council to enhance V&A’s development rights, and the expansion project has now commenced. The 440,000 m2 of reclaimed land is shown in the image below. The first phase of the project (known as Phase Zero) will take 3 years to construct and includes the following: • Tidal pools • Public coastal walkway • Landscaped promenade • Slipway and fixed quayside • Construction of a 540-metre seawall • Open public spaces and pedestrian paths • Two breakwaters extending into Table Bay • A new harbour for boating, kayaking and swimming We will then see the development of additional hotels, residential and commercial space, and leisure offerings. No major new road upgrades are expected.

@ofuturecities @Mabine_Seabe There is no room for more lanes. It's all constrained by the bridges. Also, add more lanes, they'd just fill in no extra time.
