Amin Abdullah. He stood his ground so others could make it home safely. When gunmen opened fire outside the Islamic Center of San Diego, Amin protected the community until his final moments. Police say his actions prevented the attack from becoming far worse. Support Amin’s family with funeral costs, immediate household needs, education for his children, and long term financial stability. May Allah accept him amongst the martyrs and grant patience to his loved ones. 🤲 LaunchGood.com/Amin #aminabdullah

AMAR Reflections: The best ten days of the entire year are upon us, the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah. Will you work to make this your best Dhul Hijjah yet? Perhaps it will be the heartfelt du‘a you whisper to Allah in these blessed days that changes your destiny forever. Perhaps it will be the Qur’an you recite reflectively through tearful eyes that finally gives your heart the peace it has long been searching for. Perhaps it will be the sincere repentance you make in these blessed days that causes Allah to erase years of sins in a single moment. Or perhaps, and this is a thought that should shake our souls as believers, this may be the final Dhul Hijjah you ever witness. If this were your last opportunity to return to Allah, how would you want to meet these blessed days? Why are these days so special? Allah swears by them: Allah himself swears by these days that we are about to witness, with his permission. Allah says in his noble book: وَالْفَجْرِ وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ “By the dawn. And by the ten nights.” The scholars of tafsir mention that these “ten nights” are the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah. Days in which Allah gathers acts of worship that are not all found together in any other time: salah, fasting, charity, dhikr, and Hajj itself. Think about what this means, dear brother or sister. Allah is not only telling you these days are important , He is drawing your attention to them by swearing by them. The Creator of time is honouring specific moments within time. When Allah, the lord of the heavens and the earth and everything in between honours something, we as believers should honour it too. No days are better than these ten: قَالَ: وَلَا الْجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ، إِلَّا رَجُلٌ خَرَجَ بِنَفْسِهِ وَمَالِهِ فَلَمْ يَرْجِعْ مِنْ ذَلِكَ بِشَيْءٍ Ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: “There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days.” They asked, “Not even jihad in the path of Allah?” He ﷺ said: “Not even jihad in the path of Allah — except for a man who went out with his life and wealth and returned with neither.” — Sahih al-Bukhari Pause and ponder, dear brother or sister, how privileged are you to witness these ten days. Give it your all and exert as much effort as you possibly can. How should we spend these blessed ten days? Start with, and perfect what is obligatory. Obligatory Deeds Being Most Beloved to Allah The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, narrating from his Lord: “My servant does not draw near to Me with anything more beloved to Me than the obligations I have made compulsory upon him. And My servant continues to draw near to Me with voluntary deeds until I love him.” — Sahih al-Bukhari Do not let these days pass like the other ordinary days of the year. Remember that they are days that are beloved to Allah, days in which rewards are multiplied, sins are forgiven, and hearts are transformed. Remember, dear brother or sister, that every single second in these ten days is precious. Every act of worship is an opportunity. This is your chance to rebuild your relationship with Allah, no matter how far you feel from Him, this is the perfect time to turn back. Even if you have spent the entire year struggling, distracted, or drowning in sins, never think it is too late. You reaching these blessed days of Dhul Hijjah is proof that Allah is still giving you another chance. Start with, and perfect what is obligatory. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, narrating from his Lord: “My servant does not draw near to Me with anything more beloved to Me than the obligations I have made compulsory upon him. And My servant continues to draw near to Me with voluntary deeds until I love him.” — Sahih al-Bukhari Pray Your Salah On Time Start with the obligations. Nothing is more beloved to Allah than the acts He made compulsory upon us. Pray every salah, on time, as though it is your final prayer. Slow down in sujood and speak to Allah from your heart. Sometimes one sincere sujood can change you in ways you did not think were possible. Read Qur’an With Reflection Do not rush through the words of Allah just to complete pages or reach targets. Sit with the Qur’an. Reflect over its meanings. Let its verses reach the parts of your heart that the dunya has hardened. The Qur’an was not sent merely to be recited, it was sent to heal us and comfort us through the many tests and hardships we go through in this tumultuous dunya. Even if you only read a little each day, consistency is beloved to Allah. Do not let a day go by in these blessed days, except that you read something from the words of Allah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah will receive a good deed, and each good deed is multiplied by ten. I do not say that ‘Alif-Lam-Meem’ is one letter, rather Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter, and Meem is a letter.” — Jami‘ at-Tirmidhi If one letter gives you ten good deeds, how many will you get when you read a page, a chapter, when you complete the entire qur’an. Look at how merciful your lord is, dear brother or sister. Allah is not in need of us, it is us who benefit from reading the Qur’an, yet he still rewards us abundantly for it. Surah Al-Baqarah (2:203) “And remember Allah during the appointed days.” These days are limited in number, just ten days, will you be from those who listen to your creators command? Fill your tongue with remembrance: These simple words are heavy on the scale and beloved to Allah. Repeat them while driving, cooking, walking, resting, let your tongue remain alive with the remembrance of your lord during all times of the day and during all tasks. Especially increase in the takbeer of Dhul Hijjah: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “There are no days greater in the sight of Allah, nor days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Him, than these ten days. So increase in them your declaration of La ilaha illa Allah, your Takbeer, and your praise of Allah.” — Musnad Ahmad Fast — Especially The Day of Arafah One of the wives of the Prophet ﷺ said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to fast the first nine days of Dhul Hijjah, the day of Ashura, and three days of every month.” — Sunan Abu Dawud The Prophet ﷺ Encouraging Fasting on the Day of Arafa The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about fasting on the Day of Arafah, and he said: “It expiates the sins of the previous year and the coming year.” — Sahih Muslim If you are able, fast the first nine days, especially the Day of Arafah. Our beloved prophet said fasting the Day of Arafah expiates the sins of the previous year and the coming year. Two years of sins erased because of one day. How merciful is Allah? Do not miss a golden opportunity like this. Make Abundant Du‘a The Best Dua The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The best supplication is the supplication of the Day of Arafah. And the best thing that I and the Prophets before me have said is: ‘There is no god except Allah alone, without partner. To Him belongs all dominion and praise, and Raise your hands often in these days. Ask Allah for everything your soul desperately desires, guidance, forgiveness, healing, righteous companionship, success, Jannah, and a heart that is close to Him. Do not underestimate du‘a. A single du‘a can change your entire life. Remember: Allah loves when His servant asks Him. Give Charity — Even If It Is Small Never belittle a small act done sincerely for Allah. Give charity, feed someone, help your family, support a struggling person, sponsor an orphan, perhaps that small deed will meet you on the Day of Judgment when you need it most. Make Sincere Tawbah These days are an invitation back to Allah. No matter what you have done. No matter how many times you have fallen. No matter how distant you feel. Return to Him. Cry to Allah and ask him sincerely to forgive you. Ask Him to purify your heart. Ask Him to make you among the righteous. Allah does not tire of forgiving, we tire of asking. Protect Your Heart From Sin Just as good deeds are beloved to Allah in these blessed days, sins are dangerous. Guard your heart and limbs from anything that displeases Allah and distances you from him. These days are too precious to waste. Ask yourself an honest question dear brother or sister and be truthful in your answer, If you cannot stay away from sins for just ten days? When will you be able to? Pray During The Night Even if it is only two raka‘at. When the world is asleep and you are stood with your hands are raised in the depths of darkness, your sincerity is proved. Perhaps the tears you shed in the last third of the night will be the very tears that save you on the Day of Judgment and protect you from the Hellfire, for Allah will not enter into the fire an eye that remembered him privately and was moved to tears. Know, dear brother or sister reading this, that you are living and witnessing an opportunity like no other, your creator has honoured you to reach these ten days. Many of our beloved family and friends who were with us last year are not here today. We should strive with diligence and eagerness, pushing ourselves to our limits, it is then, and only then, that we will see true transformation and a life that has changed. The goal of these ten days is not simply to complete actions, it is to emerge from them closer to Allah than before. Do not let Dhul Hijjah leave while your heart remains the same. Because the real success is not reaching Eid. The real success is reaching Allah with a heart that has transformed, with intentions that are renewed and actions that draw you closer to him.
