Sending our thoughts and prayers. Anderson, SC — An Anderson County deputy is facing life-threatening injuries after being shot by a suspect during a traffic stop along I-85 on Monday afternoon. Deputies initiated a traffic stop on a Dodge Challenger and were in the process of interviewing the driver when the deputy requested additional assistance. A second deputy arrived on scene shortly thereafter. During the encounter, the suspect retrieved a firearm from the vehicle and fired at least one shot, striking the second Anderson County deputy. The deputy who initiated the stop returned fire, and the Anderson County Coroner has confirmed the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. This remains an active and ongoing investigation. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has assumed lead on the officer-involved shooting.
