junior options interview question: you're on an index options market making desk & buy a front month straddle OTC with a bank, crossing at 24 vol. both you & the bank use the same option pricing model. you both think you made a good trade. why?

Yesterday I had the greatest argument against retail options trading Went to the pub with @liquiditygoblin and watched @larpcapitalwc ask him a hundred questions only someone who has been a MM on a prop desk would know I’m not even remotely smart enough to play that game

@whitesocksclips Why is Nick punching down on people on our side rather than just letting them go off? Don’t see the play here

@whitesocksclips The evidence for election fraud in 2020 or devil worship, which both Nick and I believe, is built on similar “something’s off” scattered evidence rather than hard “the Jews did it” evidence, because you never get hard evidence when people are actively trying to cover it up

Nick GOES OFF on ankle-biter Ian Carrol and says he is going to have to end up doing a video debunking their narrative. "It's a 3-agency conspiracy, but they brought the wrong rifle?"

@turbofish_pk @systematicls @therobotjames I can’t believe this 1 like comment is the one that makes me realize someone else already came up with “my” seemingly ingenious & novel idea (crowdsourced DeFi hedge fund), and implemented it successfully 😭 This is why I follow @systematicls though ahaha

@systematicls @therobotjames One of the reasons why @therobotjames is a kind of genius is that he speaks very concisely and you can feel that most of the things he talks about come from actual real world experience.

Had a few people PM me about this parsimony post. And I think some of you have interpreted what I am trying to say the wrong way. I think @therobotjames absolutely knows what he is talking about. I've read his blog and there are many entries that are chef's kiss. If you are starting out, I think he has one of the best collection of simple, down to earth and meaningful writings. --- All I am trying to say is that you have to be honest about figuring out where you want to sit, everyone starts out as an egg. And then you emerge from the egg and learn how to swim and breathe and eat. Then, you have to ask yourself, do you want to be a goldfish or do you want to be a shark. CAN you be a shark? Do you ALLOW yourself to be a goldfish? If you want to be a goldfish, focus on staying small and nimble and you will do absolutely fine in your fish tank. If you learn how to look cute and play tricks, you will get fed and you will survive and you don't have to worry about other fellas in the ocean. If you want to be a shark then you better learn to grow big, and swim fucking fast or you are going to end up with half a missing head. There are other sharks in the sea and guess what, sharks eat sharks! --- That's all - there is value in parsimony. But if you choose extreme parsimony you have to accept the returns / statistics / environment that comes with it and allows it to work. You also need the right personality to constantly cultivate this extreme parsimony. On the other hand, if you want to play in the ocean, do you have the personality to do so? Because it's not the goldfishes you have to worry about then. You will absolutely get floored by firms hiring hundreds of people who spend years thinking about how to make something very complex work at a very high level. Don't go to a knife fight bringing fish sticks. But you can absolutely bring a fish stick to a fight where your opponent is nowhere to be found.

@systematicls 2/2 – which is why I try to relegate it to very specific refactors (which no other LLM can do as well, especially multi-turn) Gemini 2.5 Pro’s (via aistudio) reasoning has been exceptional though so sometimes I just let that plan a refactor that Sonnet then implements. 3 Pro idk

@systematicls 1/2 In my experience, Sonnet with code2prompt is also the most reliable, but there was a brief period where Grok 3 Thinking wrote really clean, token-efficient, and performant code (also for HFT). If left to itself, Sonnet will tend to keep making logic more and more verbose –

@ryneboi @realspeckzo Vivek's claim to fame is name-dropping The Great Replacement and calling out Nikki Haley in the primaries I think he figured out that all momentum in online RW politics come from making groypers (or similar) feel heard, which JD Vance also tries to. Too bad they're both indian

probably the biggest midwit meme the San Francisco class believes is that top tier shape rotators genuinely have better models of complex emergent societal systems than top tier wordcels, but they just can't articulate them as well-- and wordcels are just snakeoil merchants good at selling their bad models completely untrue and anti-lindy if you have interacted with IQ135 engineers you know that if you spawned them in a political powergame (inter-national or intra-national) they'd be rather helpless and lack the necessary intuitions to effectively navigate.......... they also have poor taste and cultural awareness which we have long conceded as crucial for navigating complex adaptive systems they constantly glaze this archetype of the Engineer King/CEO which is kind of weird given it's clearly not much of an archetype at all (engineering has been a relatively low status profession basically always & everywhere until the current iteration of hypercapitalism gave it a modest boost) philosopher kings on the other hand are clearly lindy for a reason do you think every civilization in history of the world has consistently utilized near-exclusively nontechnical wordcel leaders because they were all morons & didn't know any better? if you told an NPC in classical athens why they haven't put the best bridge-builder in charge of the polis he’d look at you like you’re insane

Because the world is changed by a couple thousands radicals in times of opportunity, not by trying to work within a broken system. Why do you think people escaped to America instead of trying to reform Great Britain? Also, your post literally ends with "Change will be slower, and will require a lot of hard work winning hearts and minds, ..." How is this not a direct call to work within the system, which is clearly rigged? I guess I just see things differently and am surprised you don't see it the same way given that I really respect you intellectually

It doesn't sound like you really paid attention to my arguments, I'm not saying "democracy will save us". And why would you expect any of the factions picking up the pieces to align with you ideologically, when you presumably have very niche political opinions shared least of all by elite factions?

One of the most popular bad ideas on the right is that the West is on the brink of civil war or violent revolution In this essay, I argue most of the assumptions people have about this are incorrect. Western democracies are more stable than you think: keithwoods.pub/p/dont-bet-on-…
