‼️🇭🇺 REALITY CHECK: HUNGARY VOTES IN 10 DAYS Despite the noise of Brussels-backed narratives, the latest reality-based polling paints a clear picture: patriotic Fidesz remains firmly ahead at 46%, with the Brussels- and Kyiv-backed Tisza Party trailing at 41%—and a four-party parliament now within reach. Hungarian voters won’t gamble. They choose security, stability, and strength—represented by 🇭🇺 @PM_ViktorOrban.

‼️🇭🇺 YOUR DAILY DOSE OF REALITY ABOUT THE HUNGARIAN ELECTIONS: Amid Brussels-funded, so-called “independent” polls, a reality-based survey just 11 days before the vote shows a clear patriotic lead in 66 districts—backed by a disciplined, mobilised voter base. Hungary still has a strong, loyal base behind 🇭🇺 @PM_ViktorOrban—and on April 12, the whole world will see it.

@josephkazUK @HansMaulwurf51 @haringeycouncil Greetings from Germany! We have experiences with "the beautiful town", "Entschandelung" and "beautification" and "conservative voices". As one of the commentators suggestet to expropriate the lot if its not "beautified" by the owner, well, we had that too. Do your maths!

This is Seven Sisters Road in @haringeycouncil. It's an utter embarrassment that we have allowed our high streets to deteriorate to this point. This parade of shops could be a landmark destination, but instead it's neglected and forgotten. I'm all for liberalising planning BUT design codes have a place, and this is a great example. No satellite dishes, no PVC, no estate agent signs, no white paint. Just consistent signage, colours and high-quality heritage shopfronts. @createstreets

Why do new buildings seem, on average, uglier than old buildings? We discuss some options: - Survivorship bias: only the beautiful old buildings have survived (we reject this option); - Cycles of taste: everyone always finds new buildings uglier (we mostly reject this too); - Ornament became too expensive because of rising labour costs (we reject this); - Ornament became too cheap because of mechanisation and then became low status (we reject this); - Some sort of Protestant or Puritan anti-beauty inheritance (we are doubtful); - Some kind of elite status game, perhaps a response to democratisation or elite overproduction (we think there is promise here, but serious work is needed on the details). I discuss this and more with @Aria_Babu and @bswud. Apple podcasts: podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/did…

Who stands to loose from a green transition? The biggest beneficiaries of fossil fuel profits, the richest of the rich. 50% of profits go to top 1% of wealth owners. My co-author @GregorSemieniuk will present our paper and more at the @LSEEI on March 3, 6.30 PM. Go if you can!

The plan is simple: remove 🇭🇺 @PM_ViktorOrban, install a more “constructive” leadership, fast-track Kyiv’s accession and reopen the Brussels money pipeline so Europeans’ money can keep fueling a war with no end in sight. That is their script. There is just one problem. The missing variable is the Hungarian voter. And that variable speaks in April.
POLITICOEurope@POLITICOEurope

Ukraine sees a narrow window to secure its future within the EU: between the Hungarian election this April and the French presidential vote in April 2027, according to officials in Brussels and Kyiv. politico.eu/article/ukrain…

Australia is building a new city, "Bradfield City". Of course, it's another 'tower in the park' design, ignoring 80 years of evidence that these plans *simply don't work*. It makes all the classic mistakes: - lack of enclosed space: towers that swim in an ocean of ill-defined space - towers competing for attention - chaotic, unclear, arbitrarily designed public spaces - placeless, generic architecture that doesn't seem very climate adapted They could learn a thing or two from @UrbanCourtyard

@Aesthetic_City To spend an afternoon at that place, there should be seating and some other offers to meet people and spend time. People gather everywhere where there is a piece of grass and benches, if it is allowed. Is it allowed to lay and pic-nic at the lawn here?

Alexander was larger than life! Alexander the Great was renowned for his extraordinary generosity, often distributing vast sums of wealth, lands, and treasures to his friends, soldiers, and even strangers, sometimes to the point of impoverishing himself. Ancient sources like Plutarch describe him as someone who delighted in giving more than in receiving, viewing generosity as a hallmark of kingship. He used to chastise his soldiers and companions for not asking him for favors, and when they did, he went the extra mile. At some point, a soldier did something cool for Alexander to see and reward him.. when Alexander did not give him anything the soldier said jokingly: “Alexander, you don’t like us and that’s why you don’t give us gold?” Alexander jokingly replied: “you didn’t ask”! Everybody laughed and the soldier was rewarded. This became an anecdote within the Greek army. A classic example illustrating both his generosity and this principle is the anecdote involving a ball game with his companions, including a young man named Serapion. According to Plutarch, Alexander frequently played ball games as a leisure activity with his friends. He was in the habit of giving gifts to those who asked for them, but Serapion never did, so he received nothing. During one game, whenever Serapion had the ball, he would throw it to the other players but deliberately not to Alexander. When Alexander finally asked why he wouldn't pass it to him, Serapion replied, "Because you don't ask for it." Alexander burst out laughing at the witty retort, which cleverly mirrored his own philosophy on asking and giving, and immediately showered Serapion with many valuable presents!
