I’ve been thinking about taste. For a long time, I thought strong designers simply “see better.” But over the years, especially working closely with @olianishyn, I realized something else: taste is not a gift. It’s attention. You build it every day, one decision at a time. 👷🏻‍♀️

For almost 7 years, we posted projects on @Behance without ever seeing the blue badge. Last night it finally appeared. Best of Behance for Salience Labs. Sometimes persistence just needs time. 🔵

Watching the process inspires. Going through it with correction changes your level. That’s the difference between watching a course and joining a practice at @des_by_obys. Sometimes growth accelerates when you don’t do it alone. We start March 17th. 🙂‍↕️

Seven years ago, we built a small site about typography. Then one about color. Then grids. We thought we were just studying fundamentals. Turns out we were building a system people would return to for years. Fundamentals are never a detour. They’re the path forward. 🙋‍♀️

Creative websites aren’t born in planned meetings. They emerge in those “right now” moments when someone is stuck or dares to suggest a risky idea. For me, creativity in digital is very close to bravery. Maybe it’s not about adding more. Maybe it’s about not playing safe. 🟨

Over the past almost 8 years, obys has won nearly every major digital design award in the industry. During this time, we’ve gone through countless submissions, wins, jury processes, and the preparation of dozens of cases. So we decided to share our experience in this YT video.

@theresawlau It’s really hard to catch the concept. Up to 30 iterations here, but then it was smooth.

@olianishyn i love the transitions of this site. Curious to know how many iterations it took to complete this final design.

Design is all about iteration. When working on a concept, a designer can go in hundreds of different directions. Every few minutes you’re making micro-decisions. Type size. Spacing. Composition. Motion. Tone. Each of them can dramatically change the outcome.

@olianishyn The final design is just a collapsed wave function of a thousand micro-decisions. The hardest part isn't generating options, it's knowing exactly when to stop. That’s where the taste lives.

This spring in CWDP, that’s exactly what we’ll focus on.
Layer by layer, moving from obvious ideas to stronger and more unexpected ones. Removing what’s unnecessary and keeping only what truly works. The first idea is rarely the best one. Most often, it’s simply obvious.

That’s why feedback matters. That’s why mentors and art directors exist. The role is not to redesign the work for you, but to help you adjust direction early and stay on a stronger path.

It’s surprisingly easy to drift into a weak direction and spend days polishing something that was never strong to begin with. And it’s very hard to see that on your own.
