It was in December, the day I made this tweet. I resigned after my first month. I got a job as a Content creative Assistant, and there was a two-week onboarding period, and during that time, I started to realize that the role was far beyond what was communicated. It was doing content writing, I was handling the social media accounts , content creation, video editing, Canva designs, and even sourcing content. In addition, I was expected to deliver three fully edited videos every single day, complete with captions, hook, blankscreen and designs. I was now reporting directly to the Creative Director, who is also a life coach, and my responsibilities grew to include managing emails, scheduling appointments, and handling her calendar. One month in and I just knew I was doing the job of a content team, a social media manager, and a virtual assistant all in one for 100k +10k data allowance lmaooooo Then there was the time difference. She’s based abroad, so I was also working around the clock. Meetings would run as late as 2 a.m. my time, I’d sleep around 4 a.m., wake up by 6 a.m., and still be expected to meet deadlines by 10 a.m., with more deliverables due by 5 p.m. It became an exhausting cycle with little to no room to breathe. What even made it even harder was the work environment. whenever expectations weren’t met, the response was condescending. I’ll be getting comments like “you’re not smart enough” or “did you even go to school at all” and for someone who positions herself as a life coach and speaks about mental health, she had zero emotional intelligence. Plus one month in she still had to deduct 20k from my salary. Lmaooo I had to be honest with myself that it was overwhelming and unhealthy and role should demand my peace, my sleep, and your sense of self at that level so I held on to the deliverables for that week and resigned after she’d had paid me my deducted salary.
