Urgent Plea from the Heart of Borgu and Agwara;
Dear Mr. President @officialABAT,
I hope this message reaches you in good health and high spirit, though I write it with a heart heavy with grief, pain and despair.
Sir, I write to you not as an opposition but as a firm supporter, also as a son of Borgu. A people who once believed in you, who embraced your “Renewed Hope” mantra, and who saw in you a protector, a leader who would shield us from harm. Today, that hope is fading, replaced by fear, sorrow and despair. Our people are been slaughtered on a daily basis. Our towns are hollowed by grief, our mothers weep, our children hide in fear and our fathers live in terror of the next attack.
Bandits and terrorists roam freely, operating for hours in broad daylight with no interference. It is as if they move under the cover of an invisible shield, striking with impunity. And it is so much worse that it seems they even have access to an aerial advantage. Every time a certain plane is sighted, an attack follows almost immediately, as if they operate a chopper of their own to orchestrate these massacres. Sir, the skies themselves have become unsafe for our people.
I am reminded of your words today during your Ramadan message, where you asked that we forgive you if you had ever sinned against us. But Sir, dead people cannot forgive, even if they wanted to. Those lives taken by these attacks will never see the sun again. They will never feel safety, hope, or love. And no amount of words can bring them back.
Yes, your administration has recorded commendable successes in economic reforms, infrastructure, and national development. Roads are being built, prices fall and rise, the Naira fluctuates, and fuel policies are implemented. All of this is commendable but it is meaningless to the people who are dead. Sir it is a fact that dead people cannot know if the Naira is strong, if roads are smooth, or if fuel is cheap, they do not shop, they do not celebrate the small victories of life and they can not VOTE, they only lie cold in the ground as victims of a deliberate neglect.
As Jagaban of Borgu, a title bestowed upon you by the late Emir Haliru Dantoro and the entire people of Borgu, you were lifted to national recognition. That title brought honor, respect, and acceptance across the North. It made you a figure of influence, a protector in the eyes of our people. And yet, Sir today, our people are crying for help while their own Jagaban, The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces is the one they cannot call upon for protection. How heartbreaking would it be for your friend and brother, the late Emir Haliru Dantoro to see this today? He would be disappointed, feeling betrayed, watching the people he loved and the land he cherished being abandoned and destroyed while the son of Borgu holds the highest power in the nation.
Sir, the Jagaban title was never meant to be just a name. It was a bond, a promise between you and the people of Borgu. That bond is now stained with our own blood. Our towns are under siege. Our villages have become killing fields, our people live in terror and every sunrise is a gamble for survival.
I beg you, from the depths of a father’s and son’s heart, to act with immediate urgency and Intervene decisively. Stop this massacre before more lives are lost. Restore hope to a people who trusted you, celebrated your rise and believed in your leadership.
Sir, let this holy month of Ramadan not pass with the cries of Borgu and Agwara unheard. Let your legacy reflect the honor of the title given to you by a friend and brother, the dignity of leadership, and the humanity that all leaders must show.
Please, Sir, save the people of Borgu and Agwara before it is too late.
