Yesterday we met six LGBTQ groups in Havana at Callejon de Hamel, an Afro-Cuban public cultural community center, to deliver several suitcases of medical aid and solar panels. Members discussed the impacts of the blockade on Cuba and performed a drag show for the community. 🇨🇺🏳️‍🌈

As the country marks Human Rights Day, the LGBTQI+ community is calling on government to do more than simply acknowledge rights. #eNCA's Hloni Mtimkulu reports from Pretoria.

Rev. Faustina Araba Forson, mother of Ghanaian transgender musician Angel Maxine, has called on parents of LGBTQ children to oppose the proposed Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill 2025. Speaking on the issue, she argued that LGBTQ individuals are “born, not made,” and raised concerns over provisions in the bill that could compel parents to report their own children. She further urged mothers to unite and defend their children against stigma and discrimination.

Homophobia is the only Western import to Africa. Bigotry against a minority group are what brings religious right wing extremists to the table, instead of loving your neighbor as the bed rock of Christianity & Islam. That message of love is what Queers send more to this world

In Ghana, Senegal, Nigeria, and Namibia, these anti-LGBTQI+ laws are passed because we really do scare them. Our existence is a mirror, a truth that shakes them. That queers are the closest thing to African culture and tradition, than an imported religion used to vilify us.

We’re still going to exist. African queers are not criminals in their homelands. None of these laws existed before colonization came to erase our histories, what a shame on lawmakers who couldn’t spend an ounce of their energy passing laws that actually matter.

A while back, in Gauteng a Pastor was taken to the Human Rights Commission for bullying, humiliating and harassing a little boy who was “soft” & effeminate. There was no outcry to “protect the children” from this party. But the moment CPT is praised for its safe haven… Eish.

We need to extend grace and understanding to Political Parties like the ACDP- a party that supports the genocide of Palestinians. Because they have no policy solutions besides bigotry. Our existence is their only plight. And that’s really sad.

Did you all listen to the shocking discussion on @DumaFM this morning? Some callers were focused on religion (Christianity), saying that same-gender relationships should not exist, but they didn’t really give clear reasons. What surprised me even more was someone suggesting that there should be a law to jail people for being gay. This is exactly why many people hide who they are, because they fear being judged or rejected by society. I really appreciated how the host on Duma FM handled the conversation with respect and professionalism. At the end of the day, we all have rights. People have different beliefs, and it doesn’t mean we should dehumanise gays and lesbians and take away their rights. Thank you
