Just last month, she graduated from university, and she was preparing for her wedding scheduled for early next year. The deceased, Sadiya Ismail Uba, had only recently completed her Bachelor’s degree in Medical Microbiology. A young life full of dreams, plans, and hopes, yet Allah’s decree came first May Allah forgive her, have mercy on her soul, and grant her the highest place in Jannah. Ameen. 🤲

I traveled from Nairobi to Garowe via Mogadishu. At Mogadishu airport, I was required to obtain an E-Visa and pay $64 at passport control, despite explaining that I was only transiting through Mogadishu. Upon arrival at Garowe airport, I was required to pay an additional visa fee of $60, as the Mogadishu E-Visa was not accepted as the official entry document. This is not just a personal inconvenience. It is an unnecessary financial and administrative burden on travelers, families, businesspeople, diaspora communities, and ordinary citizens who already face high travel costs, including subpar civil aviation services, outdated and inadequately regulated air transport options, security vulnerabilities, and inferior airport facilities. I urge the relevant federal and state authorities to coordinate urgently and establish a clear, unified, and sustainable visa and transit policy. Travelers should not be caught between two systems or required to pay twice for the same journey. Somalia needs systems that facilitate movement, strengthen public trust, and support people, not create duplication of costs, confusion, disrupt to movement, or punish travelers. In Minnesota, 90,000 students have graduated across the state. 90,000 graduates, 40,298 of those graduates, received a bachelor's degree (university level). 7,448 are #Somali.
