@theBrianaMills This is such an important reminder. True inclusion means accepting the whole person, not asking them to hide parts of themselves for others’ comfort.

Ableism is having non-disabled people ask you to tone down your disability for their own comfort rather than accept you as you are in any way, shape or form.

@theBrianaMills So well said. Disability is part of the human experience. When we recognize it that way (not as a personal failure, but a part of life) we can design systems that better integrate into people’s lives and support how they choose to manage their condition.

Disability is not a moral failing. Disability isn’t actually a failure at all. Disability is as natural as breathing. We all experience disability if we’re lucky enough to age, including animals. Disability is not a tragedy, it’s a human condition.
