Nobody’s normalizing recreational drug use. What’s bothersome about that messaging is that it stems from a widespread misconception about substance misuse. That misconception has produced policies that either did nothing or did more harm.

Public health messaging isn’t about instantly changing addicts’ behavior. It’s about shaping norms, especially for people who haven’t started yet. Prevention > reaction. Don’t normalize recreational drug use.
