Immigrants, we get the job done!! I did live off pretzels and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in my first year in the U.S.! 🥨 Not my first choice of food 😀 but I was trying to make sure my savings would last as I earned a degree and strived to make my American dream come true. Hard to explain to those who haven’t lived it. But despite different ethnicities and backgrounds, there are many shared experiences that binds us immigrants… - Buying a one way ticket to the U.S. - Leaving your family behind to pursue the unknown - Having no family and very little initial network to rely on - No car so bus to university but have to wait for bus in the freezing cold - No car so hard to take girls on dates 🤣 - Can’t get a social security # without a job but hard to get a job without a social security #! 🤦‍♂️ - Friend has to put my phone plan under her name coz I can’t get one without a U.S. credit score - Can’t open a bank account without a friend co-signing - Realize that most U.S. companies won’t even interview you if you don’t have a green card But despite all this, you wouldn’t have it any other way because there is something special about the struggle of that journey that is hard to describe.
