As a member of BUCOSA, we joined the coalition in Kikuube District to train local government leaders and key stakeholders on environmental and natural resource governance laws. Through this engagement, we strengthened community and institutional capacity to understand, apply, and enforce environmental frameworks. This comes at a critical time, as environmental degradation illegal practices such as deforestation, wetland encroachment, and weak enforcement of environmental laws are undermining livelihoods, accelerating biodiversity loss, and slowing progress on climate action. #ClimateAction | #GlobalRightsAlert

This week, we hosted a team from @OxfamCanada in the West Nile for a monitoring visit to @GAC_Corporate funded projects implemented in refugee-hosting communities. - Stand-up for SHRH - Geared for Success Several stakeholders had engagements with the visiting Team including meeting project participants in Imvepi, Terego and Arua City along side meeting OPM and district technocrats supporting the projects.

Today, the team finalised their visit with meeting new arrivals in Kiryandongo settlement and OPM to ascertain the magnitude of the current refugee influx and the relevant support needed to address protection needs especially of prima facie cases.

Let’s recap yesterday’s X Space #SheDefends conversation on advancing justice for women human rights defenders (WHRDs). Our Director of Programs and Administration, @MemoryBandera, opened the discussion by reflecting on her experience engaging with women human rights defenders(WHRDs) across the region. She highlighted how many WHRDs, especially those working in rural communities, often carry out critical work under immense pressure, sometimes without knowing that regional and international protection mechanisms exist to support them. Through the story of a rural WHRD documenting land rights violations, Memory emphasised an important point: legal frameworks like the Maputo Protocol and the African Commission Human and Peoples’ Rights can only make a difference if WHRDs know about them and feel able to access them.
