These are in effect late Sunday afternoon into Monday morning: * The Beltway area is now under a Winter Weather Advisory. * A more significant Winter Storm Warning has been issued for areas west, north, east, and southeast of the Beltway area, where NWS expects heavier snow that could reach or exceed 5 inches. * Blizzard Warning on the Eastern Shore (yikes!!)

@oceans_dan67014 @capitalweather That’s on the ground. Temps above you are below freezing. About 1,000 feet above you and above is below freezing, where the precipitation is starting. So it freezes on the way down, and while it may melt somewhat below 1,000 feet AGL, not enough to turn into water.

@capitalweather I don’t get it temps will remain above freezing for the duration of the storm. Is not going to go below 32F.

NEW: We've nudged up snow projections (for most). Here's what we've changed based on our analysis of model data: * We’ve increased totals north and west of downtown D.C. to 3 to 6 inches from 2 to 5 inches. * We’ve increased totals from downtown D.C. southward to 2 to 4 inches from 1 to 4 inches. * We’ve lowered totals along the Chesapeake Bay from 3 to 7 inches to 3 to 6 inches. The period of most concern for snowfall is between about 5 to 11 p.m. tonight when it may fall quite heavily, especially west and northwest of Interstate 95 and right along the bay.

@nicksortor @DerrickEvans4WV Military aircraft often operate WITHOUT ADS-B turned on. Aircraft rely HEAVILY on ADS-B data to avoid collisions. I would be surprised if lack of ADS-B on one of the involved aircraft was not a contributing factor.
