The Deme drama in a nutshell: Deme expressed she didn't like NSFW content (she meant just sexual not borderline content) Chibi reviews butts in with a pillow of a response calling her a hypocrite because she liked an NSFW image. Then Deme decides to respond with a bullet to the knee trying to use an insult as a response. And then when everyone points out that she can't do that, she doubles and is continuing to dig her own social media grave. I'm going to have to tack this on just to make sure everyone realises how serious this is, she's been able to recover from every other drama she's been in, this time I don't think she can, she keeps fighting people unnecessarily, we found out that Nikita may have fucked her on stream (a high chance considering the sounds she made), and all of this reeks of Sinder, with Nikita seeming to be the controlling boyfriend/ manager, oh also she's pushed the none biased's against her. Moral of the story, shut the fuck up when someone calls you out.

Support streamers because you enjoy their content and want to help them grow, not because you want to be disrespectful and weird under the guise of being the “biggest supporter”. You are not entitled to say or do whatever you want to a streamer just because you give them money.

I like Ironmouse, but you don’t get to green-light any question, act completely fine on camera, and then later frame the other side as malicious. This all happened live, on stream, and it clearly came across as fine in the moment. Curiosity about what VTubers look like is normal, she’s not the first, and she won’t be the last, to get that question. Stop babying this behavior. She’s in her late 20s, a parent, and nothing actually happened. Watching her later describe it like an “attack” was embarrassing. This kind of reaction shifts how VTubers are perceived, and not in a good way. Some things need perspective, and this wasn’t it. You don’t get to invite something, accept it, and then change the rules after the fact. That’s not accountability, that’s rewriting reality to play victim. 🥺

I have watched this situation develop, I too am an outsider, I've never watched a stream, interacted on chat, or paid any subscriptions. The most exposure I have to Vtubers are the ones I follow here on X for reasons generally far removed from their avatars and personas. I'm a millennial nerd that earned his stripes in the late 90s and early 2000s when anime was still generally verboten, video games still somewhat niche, I paid a price in loneliness and pain that few could fathom for my beloved hobbies. I wasn't alone in my generation in being treated that way, you have many others to thank for the progress we have made towards acceptance. You vtubers have built quite a city on my old battlefield, though I never entered it. That city and everything you built is under threat, crumbling to peices, and on the verge of destruction. Yes this awards situation is that dire. It isn't because of the prize itself, like in disaster analysis the situation with the award is but one hole in the Swiss cheese model that is lined up. The award itself is not a big deal, who won it, for what motivations, what it represents, and the categorical failure from the successful within the vtuber community to adequately address the situation are far more consequential. First let us discuss who won. Why the Burnt Peanut won of course, likely did it by brigading the polls but hey, Socrates thought democracy was stupid for a reason. Who is the Burnt Peanut then? I plied though some of his clips and he is a semi comedy act, primarily using loud humor, oh and he is doing things this way to specifically lampoon vtubers. In a vacuum he might not be my cup of tea but I have no issues with parody acts. Burnt Peanut isn't a parody act though. The humor cloaks his malice. I am reminded of a uniquely grim DnD game I played about a decade ago. We invited a mutal friend lets call him Dave to the table and did all we could to welcome him, but he came to the table to ruin our game. In game and outside of the game he did everything he could and the DM would permit to antagonize the rest of us. Acting against the party, role playing by saying "meh", paying no attention to the game at all and making what parts he did know about torture for the rest of us. The game ended after only four sessions of this, he won, the game is over and we all hated him. That is who the Burnt Peanut is, he is not here to take anything seriously, he is here to mock v-tubing and show the world how ridiculous v-tubing really is. Him winning the award by itself should have just been an eye roll moment, the reaction from the big v-tubers is what really makes this an infection point. Once someone has a large following in media they naturally receive insulation from industry/media wide problems. So when Ironmouse says "Is the hate in the room with us right now?", the answer to her smug nonrebuttle is, "Maybe not in your high castle, guarded by a legion of mods with so many people the chat is moving too fast to read anyway. But it burns within the villages of the small and poor, they are being hated and trolled without mercy by Peanuts following." The big names are insulated and incentivised to be magnanimous, to pretend that this insult isn't a slight against them since they already have theirs. The small names and starters now have to wade though a bunch of people that believe with all their hearts that v-tubers and their fans have inappropriate ideas about children, to translate they want to think of you as someone they can justify killing. Not so funny when you see what lurks under the jokes. The failure of the big names to protect the dignity of the hobby and their own fans will likely come to bite them sooner rather than later. Peanuts success will see his methods replicated, the anime flavor of v-tuber will be erased as the medium becomes a quasi animated Mr. Beast/Annoying Orange corporate slope pipeline. Mark me that this is the beginning of the end for anime adjacent v-tubing, not the end itself yet but the cracks are there and spreading. The "inclusiveness" of the big streamers is the gulping sound of the poison pill going down the mediums throat. Even now the toxin spreads through the body, the first symptoms have already appeared.

The Vtubers big enough to win this award wouldn't benefit from it either way lol. In fact, the other nominees will see more traffic from people going into their chats to "dunk on em" or Peanut fans discovering vtubers from him winning THIS award. This hurts 0 people, and benefits everyone.
