We applied Karpathy Auto Research to chess through Opal, and the results were strong. Instead of relying on opening books or memorized theory, the system learns directly from outcomes. The agent plays matches against itself, evaluates positions with an engine, updates the policy, and runs the loop again. Over time, that feedback cycle compounds. Self-play -> Evaluation -> Policy update -> Repeat. The result was a +596 ELO improvement. When the learning loop is tight, improvement accelerates quickly.

Discord quietly rolled out DAVE end-to-end encryption for voice channels. No changelog. No warning. Every third-party voice agent broke overnight. Ours included. Packets failing CryptoError at the transport layer. Bots went completely deaf. So we traced the MLS key exchange, patched the decryption layer, and got Opal talking again. While we were in there, we rebuilt the whole pipeline. - swapped to an MoE backbone running on proprietary wafer-scale silicon - restructured prompts with prefix KV-cache - stripped thousands of dead tokens the model was reading every turn Result: sub-second voice AI inside Discord. ~500 average end-to-end latency. Faster than Vapi, Retell, PolyAI, measured with aiewf-eval + our end-to-end transport timing harness (p50/p95).

hackathons taught me to run on no sleep and pure focus building in public is just proof of that work, persistently i'm not slowing down any time soon grateful i get to live this life
