A Race of Excellence: Love, Light and Amica. There was a spaceship ready for a journey to be controlled by two skilled pilots. One of the pilots then discovered that she had just been given an opportunity to add more skills to her growing portfolio on navigation. #HighOnAmica

Old photos are recycled. Context is twisted. Narratives are manipulated. But you can verify. As we approach the 2027 elections, visual misinformation will only increase. Don’t just believe what you see, verify it. #MediaLiteracy #verifybeforeyoushare #stopmisinformation

It has been exactly one week since traditional and religious leaders, advocates, youths and government officials came together with a shared purpose which is gender-based violence prevention in Kwara state. From commitment to community action, the conversation reminded us that ending GBV takes leadership, collaboration, and sustained effort from every part of society. #standupagainstgbvkwara #BBYDI #FordFoundationOWA #EndGBV #CommunityAction #KwaraState

“Every great design begins with a simple idea.” In our #NextGen Program, last week’s session introduced participants to the world of UI/UX design using #Figma one of the most powerful collaborative design tools today. Participants explored how to set up design files, navigate the interface, and structure their workspace effectively. The session emphasized the fundamentals of UI design, showing how simple shapes serve as the building blocks of digital products, and how techniques like Boolean operations help transform basic elements into meaningful designs. Through hands-on practice, learners created essential UI components such as buttons, focusing on usability, spacing, and clarity. They also took part in a logo design exercise, applying their creativity while reinforcing core design principles. The session laid a solid foundation for understanding how ideas evolve into visually compelling and functional interfaces marking the beginning of their journey into product design. #NextGen #UIUXDesign #Figma #DesignThinking #TechSkills #DigitalCreativity

Applications are now closed. From March 14 to today, over 1,000 entries came in from across Nigeria. Each one carried a voice, an idea, and a vision for how AI can serve the public. Thank you to everyone who applied. You showed that young people are not just part of the future of technology. You are already shaping it. Now we move to the next stage. Stay with us.

When we launched the national essay competition inviting young Nigerians to write about AI, the question was whether there was an appetite for this conversation outside policy circles. 1,423 submissions answered that question. They came from 549 institutions across all 36 states and the FCT. 48% were women, and the competition didn't include a gender quota or women-specific track. It asked a question about everyday life, and the response reflected that. The review process is now underway as part of BBYDI's AI Literacy for Everyday People project, supported by the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation.

Last week’s @DeepTech_Ready session focused on building strong foundations across data and artificial intelligence through practical, hands-on learning. Participants were introduced to Data Engineering, exploring the data lifecycle and how data flows from collection to usable insights. In Advanced Data Analysis, they applied statistical concepts and tests using Python tools like SciPy and Statsmodels. The session also covered Data Science and Machine Learning, where learners trained a supervised regression model using Linear Regression, gaining insight into predictive modeling. In Generative AI, participants explored prompt engineering, learning how to craft effective prompts for better AI outputs. The program continues to equip participants with the skills needed to analyze, build, and innovate in today’s data-driven world. #DeepTech #DataEngineering #MachineLearning #GenerativeAI #TechSkills #DigitalInnovation

Kwara communities enforce marriage agreements against spousal violence Communities in Kwara state have begun enforcing marriage agreements that impose consequences for spousal violence as part of a broader grassroots response to gender-based violence (GBV). In the Alalubosa area of Ilorin, a community-wide marriage agreement is now binding on newly married couples, with clear provisions addressing domestic abuse. The development follows a two-year GBV prevention programme implemented by Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative with support from the Ford Foundation. thecable.ng/kwara-communit…

In 2021, Abideen Olasupo, sparked a heated debate on Nigerian social media after he returned $2,397 that was mistakenly paid to him twice for consulting work. Many people insulted him for taking that step. Olasupo clung to the virtues he had learnt from his parents while growing up, not knowing that his gesture was noted and he was honored with the Gani Fawehinmi Impact and Integrity Award
