OVPP Energy Payment Rails 101: Legacy rails: Settlement takes 30–180 days. example: you send excess solar to the grid → best case, you see a bill credit in ~30 days; worst case, you’re effectively paid months later (sometimes via indirect incentives like amazon gift cards). --> slow, opaque, and not built for real-time grids to bring on AI & Data Centers. What’s changing: OpenVPP is building a tokenization layer + standard for DERs (distributed energy resources) solar, batteries, EVs, thermostats, meters via ERC-1155. time series data from energy devices are stored within each CA of each unique device within OVPPscan <--> Basecan. RWA: EV #384 basescan.org/nft/0x7335b6e8… -->this means devices can be represented as fungible, non-fungible, or semi-fungible tokens within a single, efficient smart contract. What this unlocks: We bring these assets onchain → world.openvpp.energy Now devices can be settled instantly for participating in: • local smart grid events. • global Open Virtual Power Plant (OVPP) events. Excited to share that OpenVPP $OVPP is sponsoring the Arizona State University Energy x AI Hackathon: Engineering the Future today in Phoenix Arizona. 🌐 asu-energy-hackathon.devpost.com I’ll also be one of the judges alongside some of the top industry executives, venture capitalists, and founders in clean energy. Arizona's grid faces extreme stress in summer: temperatures above 105°F push demand to the edge of capacity while rooftop solar floods the grid mid-day, then vanishes at sunset. At the same time, the state has a fast-growing EV fleet sitting plugged in most of the time — a distributed energy resource that is almost entirely uncoordinated. This project treats those parked EVs as a programmable grid asset. Each vehicle can: Discharge (V2G) — sell stored energy back to the grid during stress events. Shift load (Smart Charge) — charge only during off-peak windows when electricity is cheap. Run inference (Compute) — participate in distributed AI compute tasks during idle hours. The system continuously decides which mode each vehicle should be in, hour by hour, based on real grid conditions, time-of-use pricing, and compute demand signals. Github: github.com/Vinay-Vikkrant…
