This case strikes me as extraordinary, both for the police behaviour and judge's apparent direction to the jury. Carrying an 8" knife is illegal with very limited exceptions which do not include "self defence". The Criminal Justice Act makes that plain, and the Sentencing Council says in terms "carrying a knife or other weapon for protection is not a lawful reason. " The Attorney General should be reviewing both this case and the case of the two teenage rapists ASAP. As the UK hits 35C it is hitting 55C in India, just a few Centigrade from causing instant death. This is the most heavily populated country on the planet with 1.47 billion people. More than all of North America and Europe combined. Imagine if they all have to leave.

@RupertLowe10 Cancel pension credit, the payment made to those who don't have a full 35 years of NICs and have no other income. NICs are paid by those working and credited to those in receipt of most benefits, so the only people now qualifying for pension credit are immigrants.

@OrevaZSN No. Crime still exists in rich countries and wealthy people still commit crime. If you eliminate the factor of want, you still have the factors of envy (all socialists) and greed (some capitalists). What causes crime is a lack of community. People don't steal or harm friends.

You reduce crime by eliminating poverty. The reason so called nice neighborhoods have lower crime rates is because people’s basic needs are being met. It is not because of police, alarm systems, or neighborhood associations. Poverty creates crime.
