Apple Pay vs Google Wallet
Both use EMV tokenization + NFC. Your real card number (PAN) isn’t shared with the merchant, and the bank/payment networks approve the payment — not Apple/Google servers.
Apple Pay: hardware-first
• Device token (DPAN) + keys stored in Secure Enclave
• Phone generates a one-time cryptogram → NFC → POS → issuer verifies
• Works offline (no internet needed)
Google Wallet: flexible Android-first
• Uses HCE (software card emulation) + cloud-managed token lifecycle
• Tap flow is the same (token + cryptogram → issuer verifies)
• Needs occasional internet to refresh token batches → offline can be limited
Bottom line: both are extremely secure. Apple leans privacy + hardware isolation; Google leans flexibility + broad device support.
