Live Free or Die Hard (2007) is better than the franchise reputation it gets stuck with. The practical stunts, and the McClane–Justin Long dynamic give it real personality. The fifth film collapsed the brand, but this one doesn’t belong in that category.

@RetroMc91 @Futurhythm The print was definitely older, looked absolutely amazing in 35mm but I could tell by the blue grade and also the font type/translation that it’s the same as my DVD. Fine by me as the blue grade is perfect and contrasts with the red of the explosions perfectly

@AddictsAction Oh for sure. Rambo is an extremely easy target for these people, and they could never make this argument for any John Woo film, McTiernan film, James Cameron film (barring Avatar), or George Miller film. That would basically be outing who watched the movies or not

@oscarmrocks 100% agree about 3 onwards. 2 at least still tried to tie it into the Vietnam connection. My point was less about First Blood, specifically and more that many folks won't actually watch the movies with an open mind or at all but have zero issues ragging on them.

Not really surprising given that many action movies are also referred to now as Dad movies and not in a good way. That said, I do wonder how many people who answered this have actually properly seen the movies they say they dont like. First Blood in particular...

Rage bait article aside. I think what a lot of modern action flicks lack is stuff you had in 70s, 80s and 90s. Your action heroes had vulnerability. Kyle Reese, John Mcclane, Indiana Jones etc. When your characters can get hurt psychically or emtionally it adds stakes.
