Thumbnail Designers! Stop making boring podcast thumbnails. The pros are using props and costumes in their thumbnails, and often times they never appear in the video itself. ◉ The Basement Yard has been doing this for ages, a funny edit of the hosts that takes one thing they talk about and brings it to an extreme. ◉ The Bach and Arthur Pod are also doing this by editing in the costumes. Normal talking heads are still used (Bad Friends / Trash Taste) but they're usually punched up with some high emotion action shots that tell a story. It's easy to spot patterns like this with Ostendo.app, It’s the best way to organize your references and makes organizing inspo way easier. Check it out. #thumbnails #thumbnaildesign

most creators lose retention in the first 15 seconds. not because of editing. because they delay validation. this thumbnail promises a solution for brain fog. and within seconds, the hook validates the exact feeling the viewer came for: “foggy and focused” “not fully in the day” that’s why people keep watching. most creators bait the click… then completely ignore the expectation for the first 2 minutes. big mistake. your thumbnail + title create the question. your hook should immediately confirm: “yes, this video is exactly what you clicked for.” validate the click early. retention follows.

@ostendoapp Good on you, this is exactly what thumbnail folks need. My saved thumbs folder is a complete mess. Any chance you're opening a beta or demo soon? Keen to try it out.

Thumbnail designers! be honest, your reference library is a mess. You’ve saved hundreds of thumbnails, but when you actually need one, you’re digging through folders and screenshots trying to find it again. We built something to fix that

The curiosity gap has a sweet spot. Too little mystery = no reason to click Too much mystery = confusing, feels like clickbait, viewer feels tricked The sweet spot is: "I think I know what this is... but I need to be sure." That tension is what drives the click.

Here are 4 thumbnails users tagged as "Lofi" it's actually common style among commentary and personality-driven YouTubers. They go for a more relaxed, scrapbook-like aesthetic with layered cutouts, simple fonts, thick outlines, and edits that feel intentionally less polished and more niche. P.S if you want to get started collecting, tagging, and actually USING your thumbnail reference, check out ostendo.app :)

Here are 4 thumbnails users tagged with "Before / After" showing the main 4 ways to cover this niche! 1. The classic split screen "spot the difference" 2. The cut in half head shot 3. The "after" expanding into the "before" 4. Both in the same scene (either being held by the creator or behind the creator) P.S if you want to get started collecting, tagging, and actually USING your thumbnail reference, check out ostendo.app

A pattern we can analyze in the Video Essay niche is BOLD text (usually 1 to 2 words max) that really tells the viewer at a glance what they're in for without overwhelming them. P.S if you want to get started collecting, tagging, and actually USING your thumbnail reference, check out ostendo.app :)
