Once again Islam comes up with an excuse. This time it’s an injury. I always knew I would be part of the White House event. Even when the UFC told me at one point that they wouldn’t count on me for the event, I knew it was part of the negotiation. When they finally told me I would be on the White House card, they mentioned Islam and I didn’t hesitate for a second to accept the fight. Even though the fight hadn’t been officially confirmed yet, the White House card was going to be announced the next day. And when I woke, I found out that Islam had gotten injured. And then Justin Gaethje appeared. Once again, someone else who will pay for Islam’s escape. Both of their manager is a bitch and also ugly as hell. Justin, see you at the White House. I’m not someone who humiliates people. It will be quick. When you wake up, everything will already be over.

@oster30 There will always be a better controller, a better shoe, a better tennis racket, etc. There is no controller that people can touch and magically become leagues better than you at melee (besides illegal ones with macros/unnerfed box maybe) Game is hard

Fun research project by Fiction! Also even though I was category one, feel like it doesn't fully encapsulate my thoughts. As a Brawl/PM player, I think button remapping should just be available for everyone lol

@NotAklo Fox is supposed to be difficult because if he wasn't he'd need to be banned. So anything that disproportionately makes exection easier for Fox impacts the game's balance a lot.

My final thoughts on zjump — I recently thought about this for a VERY long while before saying something that I wasn't confident in. In this post I've addressed every point that has been brought up regarding this debate, as well as some points that I haven't seen people mention. As someone who has been playing Melee since the beginning and who at heart actually DISLIKES button remapping in the game, banning Z-jump/GCC remapping simply cannot be justified. You cannot ban zjump without banning boxx. Rather, you SHOULD not. It is logically inconsistent. If you support doing so, then your argument is subjective and not objective. You are biased. I've heard many people argue that banning only GCC remapping is fine because the boxx is an accessibility controller, whereas zjump and remapping are purely for ease of use. It's true that some top players (i.e. Cody, Joshman, Lucky, Chem, etc) have benefited from switching to Z-jump. Yes, it's mostly Fox players, as Fox requires the most high speed execution in the game. But the amount of NON-TOP level players that have improved because of switching to boxx is disproportionate. Yes, the boxx is an accessibility controller. But to pretend that the boxx is not ALSO an ease of use tool is straight up delusional. To be clear btw, I think the boxx being legal is very good for the overall health of the scene. If you think "we can address the boxx if it becomes a problem," then that means you only care if someone actually good at the game is using these tools. Put your bias aside; it is blinding you. The argument that GCC remapping is inaccessible is also just bullshit. Here is why: It's true that you currently need a phob gcc/controller mods to do remapping (which is super dumb btw when stealth mods are possible). However, if you want to play Melee on GCC without remapping, the only feasible way you can properly perform techniques utilized by zumpers and boxx players is to use permanent right hand claw grip. For most human beings, this hand position is extremely uncomfortable. In fact, I would even argue that doing perma claw grip without hand discomfort is EVEN LESS realistic than having controller mods done. It's just such a bad faith argument too because most serious competitors have already been using Phob controllers for years. That being said, zjumping is obviously easier than claw grip. I'm sure there is a very small subset of people who disagree, as this is subjective. Let's be real though. Even aside from competitive gamers, the vast majority of human beings would not think that perma claw grip is easier than holding a controller the conventional way. It IS an ease of use tool, but again — so is the boxx. Last thing I'll say is that I truly find it comical seeing Captain Falcon, Sheik, Marth, and Puff players complain about tech skill being too easy for Fox. "Melee is supposed to be a very difficult game [for you, not me]."

Since I usually play Javi claw with a remap + mouseclicks, I was interested to see how much harder it would be to do instant aerials on an unmodded OEM with no remaps. OEM ABXY, Pads, OEM Z. Using Z to L cancel with my ring finger. Zero practice. Seems pretty doable to me😅

@s00nsay I would like to say it is not cheating, but its not fairplay either, taking advantage of a loophole in the current ruleset is still a form of cheating, they might get away with it for now but it’s anti competitive

also, these things are not cheating and people trying to shit on cody/josh whoever else are whack it's allowed right now and if we don't like it we can change it without discrediting people

controller discourse always turns into decision paralysis because "you can't ban one without the other" yes we can, yes we should, one at a time i truly do not care which comes first notches more egregious than zump? ok, the playing field is more fair whichever one goes first

@oster30 @JustusXYZ Bro, just saying "it's built different" is silly as heck. Every other platform fighter has multiple input options, even most other smash games. They aren't loopholes and it doesn't hurt the "competitive integrity" of the game; that is also silly.

Boxx is objectively the most broken controller by far and even with mods controller is still worse. it’s wild to me that people point to “z jump bad” meanwhile boxx does instant aerials with digital inputs in an analog based game. We’re literally moving backwards.

@Delzoun @JustusXYZ its not only the remaping top players also modify the hardware to make it easier/reliable, giving a competitive advantage to a character/s that already has all of it. If you ask AI about competition and fair play this is clearly stated there.

@JustusXYZ I have yet to have anyone explain to me why a single button remap is more obstructive to the game than an entirely different controller form that has custom modifiers and every button is rebound.

@JustusXYZ People win with zump but they don't win with boxx so kind of a moot point. If grand finals was boxx vs zump or boxx vs boxx instead of zump vs zump as we've seen then maybe we'd be having that discussion. Every other fighting game has options for controllers with no issues.

@MedzSSBM dashback, shield drop is universal and can be used by all characters in the roster. notches, zump only buffs a few of them. which affects the competitive integrity. If melee is to be fair and competitive, agreements should be made by the community, whatever it is agreed

if people really want notches and everything else banned let’s just go back to vanilla melee disc only gamecube only. let’s really see how good you mfs really are when you’re missing dashbacks and shield drops 😂

@n0ned you are right, sorry nobody cares or is brave enough to speak it. all mods are made to benefit fox which is already top tier character. hopefully sometime this will be cleared, if zump box etc, is going to be allowed from now on so be it, but it should be agreed by the players
