The concern is that councilors don't have the authority or expertise to determine or adjudicate which cases are renovation bad faith eviction attempts. Only the LTB can do it. The bylaw was passed using unconfirmed and unquantified stories.

There is little to resist because the "renoviction" crisis was manufactured. Bad-faith evictions for repairs and renovations are extremely low. Hamilton, Toronto, London, Kitchener knowingly passed their bylaws based on improper/wrong data and information.

Reminder: real estate is hyperlocal. The national numbers in the chart are meaningless to buyers & sellers. Ottawa property values haven't decreased 28% since 2022.
