Extreme heat kills and now combined with the wildfire smoke, tenants are more vulnerable than ever to climate change. We're calling for enforceable legislation on maximum indoor heat, and further protections on fine particulate matter and ultrafine particles (UFPs).

Mason Fitzpatrick from the FMTA laid out a strategy to disrupt the Island Airport Expansion using Public Health's investigation. Many other deputants spoke in favour of the investigation at today's Board of Health meeting, urging the city to use all available tools.

FMTA Executive Director Yaroslava Montenegro spoke to CBC A proposed motion at the Planning and Housing Committee would expand bylaw officers to support criminal investigations into eviction cases, but the FMTA has reservations about police involvement in landlord-tenant matters

“Tenants are not seen as necessarily equal (to landlords) under the law,” she said. “It could mean tenants would also be criminalized." “Until a cultural shift happens, there’s not much I think we can expect from the criminal justice system.”
