Let me share a hack: If the locked phone is more than 3yrs old (from production date), you can easily unlock it without paying a kobo. Go to the website of the carrier it’s locked on, look for “unlock device”, enter your IMEI, and wait for 72hours. Your phone will be unlocked.

Using the VPN, I was able to access the app and permanently unlock the phone. The whole process didn’t take up to 2 minutes.
