Please take the time to read the attached post, highlighting signs of ovarian cancer. Early diagnosis leads to better outcomes, but we need to know what to look out for. X

World Ovarian Cancer Day is Fri, 8th May. Most symptoms are easily missed. A simple RT spreads the word and helps someone get an early diagnosis. Let’s get these signs on everyone’s timeline and #BEAT this together. #WOCD #OvarianCancer #GynaeCancers👇

Today is World Ovarian Cancer Awareness Day (World Ovarian Cancer Coalition (worldovariancancercoalition.org/about-us/)) World awareness days in general are commercially sponsored events. Much of the time, there is an underlying real root problem. Ovarian cancer is a real problem, that breaks me, bit by bit, week by week. Unlike cervical cancer, and endometrial cancer, it does not result in symptoms (like bleeding, pain) at very early stages, and is more often diagnosed at later stages. Unlike cervical cancer, international efforts to develop effective screening tests - that result in more good than harm overall - have so far largely failed. There are emerging technologies that might change screening for ovarian cancer, but they are not proven yet. The mitigation strategy for the failure to discover a useful screening test is early symptomatic diagnosis. It is the best we can do. The sooner ovarian cancer is diagnosed, the earlier the stage, the better. More treatment options, better long term outcomes. Why ovarian cancer causes normal life, out of the blue, to go sideways: As ovarian cancers grow, they take up more and more space in the pelvis, they can cause a build up of fluid causing swelling and weight gain, and it can paralyse the bowel. This can feel like bloating more than expected, a lack or appetite, feeling full after eating little, or nausea (feeling sick), abdominal pain, particularly cramping pains that tend to come in waves, and constipation. Bowels not right. Unusual bowel/abdominal problems that persist for more than a week, for example. BEAT If anything like that happens, get it checked. At any age, but most commonly 50-70. In general, if it is unusual, and persistent, anything changing faster than normal, trust your instinct. breakthroughcancerresearch.ie/news/wocd-2026/
