Why are foreign-born people even able to access social housing in the UK? It should be strictly off-limits for immigrants to access benefits under all circumstances, in my view. Being a foreign worker means you have to work.

Social housing stats are out - in 2023/2024, there were 33,075 non-UK lead tenants accessing new social housing lettings. The year before, it was 26,222. Before that - 25,969. Going back as far as 07/08? It was 12,369, to demonstrate the soaring growth. Remember this is by lead tenant - so each of these will have a number of individuals moving in too... I'm very much of the opinion that British people should be absolutely prioritised for social housing. If foreign nationals come to the UK, they need to be able to support themselves and not rely on the British taxpayer for housing and other benefits. That should not be a controversial position to take.
