Finished 2nd at the 2026 Bishkek City Chess Championship ♟️🥈 My first classical tournament of the year (60+30). A bit of an up-and-down performance, but overall happy with the result. Thanks to the Kyrgyz Chess Union and N Group for organizing the event. #chess

Classical chess players are an endangered species and yet Freestyle went almost bankrupt in a single year. Just shows either there is no demand for Freestyle or Jan Buettner and his business associates have been grossly incompetent.

The brain hates real calculation. It gets tired and looks for escape. That’s OK, but only at the start. Just don't think discomfort is failure. Discomfort is often the sign that the right work is actually being done.

@julesgambit Did he start playing at a late age? I seriously think not. Those stories about people becoming masters at a late age are always the people who almost became a master at a young age and grinded out the remaining rating later in life. Prove me wrong.

I met a guy who became a chess master at age 71. Stop thinking 25 is too late to go for your dreams.

@julesgambit I'd switch out that little table for a slightly bigger one so I can study chess there. I like to sit straight but look to the right at the board while studying.
