I’ve been studying chess in a serious way for 5 years. This thread is about: 1. Why I started this journey 2. My beliefs, skills, tools, process 3. How I made chess study a daily practice and part of my identity I hope it will help you in your chess journey. 🙏

@in_a_zugzwang The goal of d5 is to gain space and follow with a f pawn break. White has the 2 Bishops so an open position favors White. This might be the wrong plan, but that was my idea during the game.

I think this game is a good example of the relationship between central control and King safety. 💡 My control over the central squares in the late middle game meant my opponent could not effectively attack my exposed King. My King was safer than his King. 🔥 #chesspunks

It’s hard to express the joy I feel when I crush the Stafford. 🥰 Learning the 5.d3 line is absolutely worth it. @ChessMood offers a great course. Thanks @GmAvetik 🙏 #chesspunks

After almost 5 years of playing rapid on Iichess I finally achieved my goal of 2600! Had previously achieved a peak of 2599 (!) several years ago but couldn't get over the hump and came crashing down. For a long time I avoided it out of frustration, feeling like I was constantly second-guessing my instincts and playing worse than I even would in blitz. Recently got back to it as a way to help prepare for my upcoming tournament. Will this form translate to classical? Only time will tell

I have some big news to share. After much thought, I have decided to step away from my full-time role at FIDE. The past two and a half years have given me some of the greatest opportunities of my life. I have had a front-row seat to extraordinary moments, travelled the world, and worked alongside a small but incredibly hardworking media team that I am so proud of. I am deeply grateful to FIDE for trusting me with such a visible role and allowing me to work at the heart of some of the biggest events in chess. This is not about unhappiness or leaving chess behind. Quite the opposite. I am simply ready to make space for some long-held ambitions of my own. Going forward, I will continue as a freelance presenter and interviewer, travelling to tournaments and creating content around the game I love, alongside some personal projects I am excited to share soon. The chess Olympiad in Samarkand will be my final event as a full-time member of the FIDE team, and I cannot think of a more special way to close this chapter. 😊 This is not goodbye. It is the beginning of a different relationship with the game, and I hope you will still see me holding a microphone at many events to come. ❤️

@wyahaw Good job Andy! 🏆 Starting with 1.bxa5+ also works.

@NealBruceBC I think there are too many pawns after 1. Nxe5 … eg 1. … Rxf2 2. bxa5 Kxa5 3. Kxf2 Kb6 4. Nd7 Kc7 5. Ke3 … There are other lines like 1. … Re8 but that seems insufficient also. 1. Nxe5 Rxf2 2 bxa5 Kc7 3. Kxf2 dxe5 4. a6 Kb6 5. d6 … and something will queen.

@silver83p Well done Andrey!🏆 I had been trying to make Nxe5 for some time, so I played 1.bxa5+ almost instantly.

Real Game Tactic! White to move. This comes from the game Fox vs. Bauer (1900). What is White’s winning plan? I am looking for at least a 4-move solution. #ChessPunks #ChessTactic ♟️

Evergreen Chess Pattern! ♟️ This position is based on a classic, well-known tactical pattern. White to move. What are the strongest next 3–4 moves? Can you spot the solution? #ChessPunks #ChessTactic

A clean blitz win against the scotch gambit v 1500. Clean games require lots of post game analysis to refine openings, and foundational study in tactics, strategy, & endgames. And good time mgt. If can play a clean game at 57, you can too with proper effort. #chesspunks
