@senatorshoshana hot tip: try adopting from rural areas. we're far more desperate for adopters and less wrapped up in ego and "mission creep." mostly. but after a decade of fostering I've also come to conclude a lot of animal rescue staff are bonkers.

We have to do something about mission creep with animal shelters. The hoops I have to jump through to adopt are WILD.

This is Queen Bea. She’s a regal pittie in every way, shape, and form. She was rescued as a stray at the end of last year with a terrible cough that developed into a nasty bout of pneumonia. With your help, we were able to sponsor her treatment — which is when her goofy personality really started to shine.  Well, we are delighted to announce that this duchess has finally found her castle. Queen Bea was just adopted!!! Her rescue says: "We were mystified as to what was taking so long for her to find her home, but it was because she was waiting for this incredible family to come along! Queen instantly fell in love with the little kiddos and is so sweet and gentle with them. If she is not zooming outside, she can usually be found cuddled up on someone’s lap getting snuggled." To a new, cozy home... fit for an absolute Queen 🏰❤️‍🩹

I can't believe how much ecological history is packed into this novel. The extermination of predators & passenger pigeons, the push and pull between forests & agriculture, chestnut blight—it's all here, and germane to the plot. There's even a super-hot elm bark beetle sex scene!

This black bear spotted my remote camera set up shortly after I placed it and then systematically rendered it useless. Take a look! I can't say I blame the bear. While I use trail camera footage for conservation in Arizona, surveillance still sucks. #TeamBear
