@C_T_S I was quite surprised to find out a load of my colleagues haven't read a novel since they were at school. Which got me thinking... Maybe you could use your telly skills to turn it into some short films for InstaSnapTokTube that might tempt people into reading your novel?

@tomgodber I've not seen any claims beyond it being a very impressive language model that's missing a "expert system" layer in between the natural language understanding and generation. Maybe it was a mistake to release it before the reasoning component was built?

This sums up a lot of my concern over ChatGPT - it's generally stating things that look credible to me, but quite often seems to be saying things either completely or subtly wrong in a credible fashion too... and you have no way of telling which you got unless you're an expert

@tomgodber @GeorgeBevis In my experience they only rehash and interpolate - often with interesting results. For example our natural language classifier performs surprisingly well with French despite the training set being English. No intelligence, just good pattern recognition.

@GeorgeBevis There's an interesting question about whether the "AI" here can genuinely "think" beyond its training material or just endlessly rehash it, and whether that matters for a lot of the more formulaic content out there...

How long before AI can generate new Grand Theft Auto games, or Star Wars movies, leaving humans to just edit out the bad ones?!
