The Meeting Is The Message: Western Paternalism Is On Notice. When Prime Minister Narendra Modi meets President Vladimir Putin in New Delhi, the meeting itself is the message. Even if the two leaders do not sign a single agreement, they will still send a clear signal: India and Russia will not surrender their strategic autonomy in the face of pressure from the West. For decades Western capitals have viewed Eastern nations not as equal partners but as resources to be tapped, shaped or co-opted. Japan’s post-war recovery was micromanaged by Washington. China’s entry into the global trading system was encouraged only as long as it served Western supply chains and cost structures. During the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis Western institutions prescribed harsh reforms while ignoring the volatility created by their own capital flows. The West's approach is paternalistic. The East may rise but only if it doesn't exceed the West. India and Russia aren't about to accept limits. One is a rising power, the other an established one, yet both have watched their strategic priorities dismissed or downgraded in Western conversations. Modi in particular has been firm in rejecting Western paternalism. Yet, careful to not sound anti-West, Modi has defined India as simply non-West. In doing so he is hoping that the West understands that Delhi will set its own national priorities. It will decide who it partners with. And it will choose its economic and strategic engagements on its own terms but never against anyone. This makes Putin’s visit especially significant. It comes at a time when the United States, under Donald Trump’s second term, has taken a more coercive approach. Steep tariffs on Indian exports, pressure over Russian oil purchases, opening a line to Pakistan and its cohorts China all reflect Washington’s belief that Delhi’s choices must fit into its own geopolitical design. Delhi is apprehensive. And is forced to aggressively diversify. Which is also what drives Putin to India. The Modi–Putin summit is aimed at giving both real options. India and Russia have been strong partners for decades, yet their economic relationship has never reached its full potential. Both sides want to correct that. Russia is wary of over dependence on China and India is wary of over reliance on U.S. The target of 100 billion dollars in trade by 2030 is meant to anchor a more diversified external economic agenda. India’s major exports to Russia include nuclear machinery, pharmaceuticals, organic chemicals, electrical equipment and seafood. Russia’s exports to India are dominated by mineral fuels, fertilisers, project goods and precious stones. With India now a 4 trillion dollar economy and Russia a 2 trillion dollar one, there is plenty of room for growth in energy, defence production, minerals and high-value agriculture. This is also Putin’s first visit since Russian-origin systems proved their effectiveness during India’s Operation Sindoor. Pakistan and China will be watching closely because significant arms purchase agreements between Delhi and Moscow will narrow their military options and force a relook at their military playbook at a tactical level.  But coming back to the point, in short, India and Russia are exploring a partnership without unnecessary constraints. At a time when global politics is once again being pushed into rigid blocs India and Russia will hope to reaffirm their long held belief: strategic autonomy is a sovereign right.

Please check statistics. 2)Radicalisation is not a handful thing when loud speakers from places of worship were used to expel innocent pundits in the 90’s. Such appalling acts should have been addressed by the ruling elites like Mufti’s and the Abdullah’s. 3) There is no denying that the radicalisation is invariably tied to hate generated by the ruling family like yours against the minorities even before the ‘90s when BJP was not even a regional party. 4) Blaming it only on a handful is shutting your eyes to the truth. 5) J&K is normal post 2019 after the union Govt. abolished article 370 and tied the hands of the ruling elites from supporting the stone pelters. 6) Kashmir has been integrated into India by 1000s of years of cultural bondage. Giving it an angle of forceful integration is inciting hatred. This must stop. You should wake up to truth and reality. Don’t be like the serpent that swallowed its own tail and blamed others for its own suffering.

That same money was later used by him to procure bomb-making materials.
