Rabiu Kwankwaso and Seyi Makinde are playing the same game ahead of 2031. For Seyi, it is about protecting his base with APM and lock down his structure. This would increase his political value and position him for a VP in 2031. Kwankwaso played similar game in 2023 and today he's running as a VP to Peter Obi. Both Seyi and Kwankwaso are getting their political permutations correct but I can't say the same for Kenneth Okonkwo.

Seyi Makinde is trying to use the same formula Kwankwaso used in 2023. He knows he can’t win the Presidential election, but running for president is the only way to get his candidates elected in Oyo state.

@IU_Wakilii Actually, Tinubu has already lost Oyo State. He won there in 2023.

If Seyi Makinde makes it to the ballot, he may not win any state in the South West, but he will definitely take away a significant number of votes that would have naturally gone to Bola Ahmed Tinubu. That will weaken Tinubu’s dominance in his traditional stronghold. However, the bigger political reality is in the North. None of the likely contenders can truly compete with Atiku Abubakar for northern votes the way Tinubu will, except GEJ with proper backing too. Tinubu, as the incumbent, carries both the burden and advantage of power. He has the structure, state influence, and enormous financial capacity that usually come with incumbency in Nigerian politics. Many voters will still collect money during elections because of the harsh economic situation, regardless of their personal feelings. Any how you look at it, the day the opposition became divided, Tinubu’s path to a second term became way easier.

Tinubu, Obi and Jonathan will split the Lagos votes, Makinde will take Oyo State, and Adeleke will decide Osun State. Tinubu will take Ogun, Ondo and Ekiti with Makinde having <>10%. Average especially when Atiku will be clearing NE and NW with Obi clearing SE.
