Sharing on behalf of the UBC Law Disability Alliance, as they don’t have a Twitter account yet: The UBC Law Disability Alliance is making a request on behalf of a BC law student with disabilities who is dealing with a financial crisis. #lawtwitter bit.ly/3SwwDEc

Today, in-person exams begin at @OsgoodeNews and, frankly, it frightens me that the administration is continuing to hold the line that "academic integrity" is a more weighty consideration than our safety and that of our communities #UnsafeAtOsgoode

The Ontario Ministry of Health Update today was just a further entrenchment of normalized deaths. Ten children have died from COVID-19, two are in ICUs right now. These were children, who died because @fordnation failed to protect them.

Admin is saying that we can't do online exams because of "academic integrity" but I'm supposed to trust that everyone filled out their COVID screen honestly despite ENORMOUS incentive to fudge things so they can write their exam...

I'm going to be paying for a cab to take me from downtown to York because of the risks of transit. I'm terrified of catching COVID at my exam and infecting my grandmother who wants to see me for Easter.
Law Students For Safe Learning@Students4SafeOz

In light of the recent surge in COVID-19 cases across Ontario, and outbreaks within Osgoode cohorts/events over the past week, Law Students for Safe Learning calls on Osgoode administration to provide remote access to ALL Winter 2022 exams. Students with disabilities have had to fight tooth and nail for basic accommodations over the past two years. To pile on this added burden, demanding additional labour from them just as they enter their finals is cruel and discriminatory. @LawSocietyLSO
Ali Imrie@aliimrie

While my main concern with the @LawSocietyLSO’s abrupt licensing exam changes is covid safety, the mandated shift to in-person exams is also really frustrating in that it forces me to completely restart the accommodation process, and means my access needs can’t as easily be met.

Further, changing the exam format last minute forces disabled students to redo the accommodation process, as their needs may differ for in-person exams. This puts an additional undue burden on disabled students in an already difficult and stressful process.

@LawSocietyLSO has shown zero regard for the safety and well-being of students w/ disabilities. The mandate to write in-person while case numbers skyrocket is discriminatory, ablelist, and heartless. Pls read & share the below statement from @ozdisabilityco

Please read our statement our full statement, linked below, and join us in advocating to try to ensure that the needs—and lives—of students with disabilities are not overlooked by the LSO. bit.ly/3NXCZek

We call on the @LawSocietyLSO to revert to the original licensing exam dates and to allow all students to write exams remotely. As disabled students, we are far too familiar with the ableism in the legal profession already, and we hope the LSO will not continue to perpetuate it.

We are extremely concerned about the @LawSocietyLSO’s decision to change the date of the summer licensing exams and to mandate that exams be written in person—and particularly about the impact that these changes will have on students with disabilities.
