I think what stung the most about the cast change was during AG, the main 4Kids actors sounded like they were at their most comfortable and natural in their deliveries at this point in the show.
Felt like they were left behind when they were at their peak.

I think a lot of people don't understand the context behind Ash's depression, so it ends up being labeled as an OOC moment for Ash.
