Though I enjoy and, generally, applaud his performances, I can certainly understand - given Tarantino's films - why he called Dano weaksauce: a quintessential storm in a teacup. The larger issue is that cavilling at filmmakers for their strong opinions probably had a hand in contributing to, or worked in concert with, making films weaker. In the past, luminary Hollywood directors would tee off on actors all the time - people who were reading the Playboy article, or whatnot, just smirked and either agreed or disagreed: at the very least, it was information about that particular director, that could contribute to the larger context of perceiving his films. Now, directors themselves, as well as actors, have to manage their public personae or risk having the media / the public turn on their films. Forcing filmmakers to do their work in secret and be secretive with the world about their work, is bizarre in an ostensibly free society, but it is also counterproductive if that free society wishes to see the fruits of individual creativity expressed in the most extreme fashion - we will end up with weaksauce films - or more of them.

Quentin Tarantino’s negative remarks about Paul Dano a few months ago still don’t make any sense to me. I revisited Little Miss Sunshine back in February in Dano is the glue that holds the film together. I honestly don’t know how you can dislike an actor as committed as Dano.
