For Sierra games, you could buy 'hint' books, which were maybe ten bucks, and written in blue text rendered illegible by red squiggles which had to be read with a decoder panel that you moved down the page to read the text, line by line. This was to stop photocopying. The decoder panel was card with a slot sandwiching red cellophane.

According to Jack Lemmon, the first sneak preview of "Some Like it Hot" (1959) had a bad reaction with many audience walkouts. A lot of studio personnel and agents offered advice to Billy Wilder on what scenes to reshoot, add and cut. Lemmon asked Wilder what he was going to do. Wilder responded: "Why, nothing. This is a very funny movie and I believe in it just as it is. Maybe this is the wrong neighborhood in which to have shown it. At any rate, I don't panic over one preview. It's a hell of a movie." Wilder held the next preview in the Westwood section of Los Angeles, and the audience stood up and cheered. (Source: IMDb) P.S: On this day, 67 years ago, "Some Like it Hot" was released in the USA.

This guy's property had significant water runoff into nearby tributaries. He intended to create large dams to catch that water, which wasn't in of itself illegal, he just didn't apply for the relevant permits or was denied the permit to do so, potentially because that would have affected where water ended up in an entire region (which one or more large rural properties could certainly do) and I'll let you look into why that might be important, if you feel so inclined.
