Man created the aircraft…God created the pilot. One is replaceable, the other is not. We prioritize accordingly.

@NavyAthletics Can we get 500K likes for this?!?! “Like many others in the college football world, I want to leave Army-Navy alone.”

Remembering the life of my USNA classmate, Joshua Kaleb Watson, on the sixth anniversary of the horrific shooting at NAS Pensacola. Josh was the officer of the deck that day and saved countless lives with his own. After being shot multiple times he made it outside and told the first response team where the shooter was. A native of Enterprise, Alabama, about 125 miles northeast of Pensacola, Joshua was a natural leader, a huge Auburn football fan, and a person who put others first and strove to bring out the best in them, his family described. On December 10, 2019 the acting Secretary of the Navy posthumously designated Josh a qualified naval aviator. Rest easy, Josh. - This photo was taken my plebe year after my roommate, Christine, and I got into a snow brawl with Josh and his company mate. It’s one of my most cherished USNA memories.

@USNA86 …and how about lack prep in general? They knew little about Navy schemes and didn’t know players names.

Someone tell these NBC jokers our students are Midshipmen and not Cadets. Or is there some sort of parlay on how many times they can say Cadet on the broadcast. 🙄

The number of people saying small arms proficiency isn’t important for Aegis weapon systems on a Navy destroyer clearly have no clue about seamanship. On ships we live by the Reisenberg saying (or similar variant) “The sea is selective; slow at recognition of effort and aptitude, but fast in sinking the unfit." That means everyone starts by mastering the basics. Maybe you can cut corners on land or in the air but at sea, you can’t call a rapid response team or QRF, no medivac will reach you 1000 miles out and - unlike the Air Force - there’s no emergency landings on a highway, field or remote island You MUST be reliant on your own skills and that of your shipmates. And how we deal with that is we don’t skip the basics: •You don’t supervise a multi-line mooring without mastering a square knot. •You don’t use GPS—or celestial back sights on Jupiter—without first being able to take a simple compass bearing. •You don’t take the helm in pilotage waters unless you’ve nailed holding a course in open ocean. And you shouldn’t be anywhere near an Aegis weapon system if you can’t hit the broadside of a barn at 15 yards. Basics build mastery. Always.

The midshipmen have voices like angels, but judging by their Marksmanship Medals (or lack thereof), maybe it’s time to trade a choir practice or two for range time? Lethality should be a priority.
