P4/5 were looking at area. They were given a wooden square to work out its area and the area of each colour they used. As they are learning about Romans they looked at mosaics, created a design and worked out the area of each colour they would use. @Newbattlehigh

P4/5M mixed bicarbonate of soda and vinegar with water and washing up liquid to create a volcano eruption. We discovered that the gas made by the bicarbonate of soda and vinegar was carbon dioxide just like a volcano. @NewbattleSci @mideduteam

P4/5M were exploring the force caused by a Tsunami and the destruction it could cause today. They used scrunched paper, soil water and added a village using Lego. Then they tested the force. @NewbattleSci

BOATS was successful today and P4/5m enjoyed having adults in class. It was great to see adults supporting children and each other with tricky activities. P4/5M have been learning angles and how to find them and use a protractor. @MidDigiLearn @mideduteam

@GorebridgePS Miss Mack had to admit she wasn’t an expert on all things volcanoes and that she couldn’t answer the question - How come the pot they take lava samples in doesn’t melt if a hot furnace can melt metal. Ask google was my reply!

Yesterday P4/5 were learning about earthquakes and why they happen. They then began making their own earthquake during art using clay.

Today P4/5 were learning about tectonic plates and what causes an earthquake. They had a challenge to work in groups to build a tower that would be earthquake proof. After testing they then went back to change their design. What fantastic learning and great teamwork.

Today we looked at the rights of the child in the school setting and what is important. We then looked at the SHANARRI wheel and how by having our rights met we can be confident individuals, successful learners, effective contributors and responsible citizens.
