"All of a sudden, we came under direct fire ... Everyone in the car was martyred, except my brother Mustafa and me." Palestinians mourned members of the Bani Odeh family who were killed by Israeli soldiers as they drove in the occupied West Bank town of Tammun on Sunday.

No doubt this was a tragedy. BUT. For years, the Palestinian Authority and Hamas have encouraged the use of cars as weapons to murder Jews. So when an IDF force sees a car driving at them in a threatening manner, they react - and sometimes it leads to tragic consequences. This is a photo of Mustafa Ali Bani Odeh, an 8 year old Palestinian child, after he witnessed Israeli soldiers kill his mother, his father, and two of his brothers, aged 7 and 5. This took place in the occupied West Bank, land Israel has no right to patrol. The NYT account of the shooting is worth sharing: "Ali Bani Odeh’s wife and four young boys hadn’t seen him in a month and a half when he came home to Tammun, in the West Bank, from his construction job in Israel late on Friday to spend the last few days of Ramadan with his family. On Saturday night, the boys persuaded him to take them out for a drive. Eid al-Fitr, the end of Ramadan, was coming, so there were new clothes to buy. The day’s fast had been broken, so there were sweets to be had, too. They picked up fried doughnut holes in Tubas, saving them for later, but the clothing shop they went to in Nablus was closed. It was already past midnight, so they headed back to Tammun: Khaled, 11, the oldest, in the back with Mustafa, 8, and Muhammad, 5. Othman, 6, blind and incapable of walking or feeding himself, was in his mother’s lap in front. As they rounded a corner slowly, a few minutes from home, young Khaled and Mustafa recounted on Sunday, their mother, Waad, 35, asked her husband to pull over and take Othman from her so she could get something from her bag on the floor. Suddenly, the boys said, they saw laser pointers shining on their family from every direction, heard their mother scream, heard their father say “God is great” — and then heard a deafening fusillade of gunfire." Why did the soldiers kill this family? They say they "sensed danger". Imagine the strength it will take for Mustafa to resist turning to violence against the country that killed his parents and his brothers. By killing so many innocent men, women, and children, Israel is ensuring the cycle of violence continues and making everyone, everywhere less safe. The grief of Mustafa is unimaginable. But his story is not unique. Tends of thousands of children killed. Many more have had their parents, brothers, sisters, family, friends killed by Israeli snipers or Israeli bombs. We cannot let this continue.

Two Palestinian brothers are the only survivors after Israeli troops killed their parents and two siblings in Tammun in the occupied West Bank, according to Palestinian health authorities.  The boys say soldiers opened fire on their family car and beat them after the shooting.

Not for no reason. The soldiers perceived the car, which sped directly at them, as a threat to their lives and responded. The body of 5-year-old Mohammad Ali Bani Odeh is being prepared for burial in his hometown of Tammun, northern West Bank. Ali was shot dead along with his father, mother and elder brother last night in a horrific cold-blooded murder perpetrated by an Israeli army unit at the entrance to the town. They were sitting peacefully inside their car when they were gunned down for no reason.

What can Mustafa Bani Odeh, a sweet little boy, expect from life now? Yesterday, in Tammun, in the occupied territories, he watched the world collapse in front of his eyes. The Israeli army killed most of his family. A father. A mother. Two brothers. Now the boy leans down to kiss them goodbye. This is what the occupation leaves behind: children crying to the dead. The occupation is the greatest terror, and those who remain silent before it share the burden of these crimes. Only ending the occupation will stop this. Only ending the occupation will allow us to live.

This was reportedly a tragic mistake made by soldiers who believed they were being targeted in a car ramming attack, as they were carrying out an arrest in Tammun. Israeli authorities stated that an investigation has been launched, and that, "any harm to innocent people, certainly children and women, is stomach-turning." More broadly, as Israel acts to remove existential threats on other fronts in Iran and Lebanon, violence in the West Bank/Judea & Samaria is a major concern. In 2024, Israeli authorities reported almost 7,000 attacks by Palestinian extremists against Israelis in the territory. During the same time period, there were between 682 attacks (according to Israeli authorities) and 1,449 attacks (according to the UN) by Israeli extremists against Palestinians. These numbers have reportedly continued to rise in 2025 and 2026. We stand with all those working to bring this dangerous wave of violence to an end, and hope that tensions in the region are reduced as quickly as possible.

Israel has closed the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem for two weeks. The compound is considered the third-holiest site for Muslims, and it’s been almost empty throughout Ramadan. Israel says the closure of holy sites in Jerusalem is for “safety reasons” amid the ongoing war with Iran.

Even when saving Arab lives, the Palestinian Authority manages to incite against Israel.

Israel closed ALL religious sites and prevented ALL public gatherings to save ALL lives because Iranian missiles don't discriminate. Yet the PA incites terror by calling this lifesaving act a “crime against Muslim sites.”
