@equinusocio Apple Maps is a very good product, especially when connected to the car using Car Play. I’m also using iCloud with custom domain for my email. By now, no regrets.

At the end of the day, it is very difficult to find senior software engineers and in my opinion we should ask ourselves two questions: - do we focus enough on the growth of our engineers? - has the time come to review our standards?

I often find a lot of technological fetishism and extreme poverty of attitude about the rest.

I think the difficulty also lies in the complexity we have in software development today: there are many levels of abstraction and it is often difficult for a software engineer to have the opportunity to use primitives directly.

If you are a hiring manager wondering “why is it so hard to hire a senior developer” consider that it’s partially because of situations like below. Those who need help about some framework-specific-thing-easy-to-learn-with-a-little-help are often rejected on interviews.

When we take something for granted, we make a big mistake. Every daily gesture, even the smallest, is a gift. Unfortunately, we realise this when it is too late, when that gesture is already lost. Finding it again, however, gives immense satisfaction.

Working in the office is like using a coloring book and drawing in the lines. All the rules are defined for you (9-5 Mon-Fri, location, etc). Remote work is like drawing from a blank paper. You define your own rules. One is easier. One has far more potential.

Meetings are the worst! They burn people out and nothing gets done. My tweet on meetings and burn out last week hit a nerve. It resonated with a lot of folks. These are 7 steps I follow to aggressively reduce meetings. A short 🧵
